You'll loose some power at low speeds with aFe. The reason is simple, you get awesome sounding engine because the intake is not in a closed box. Which also means hot air from engine is able to reach to the intake. On the other hand, at highway speeds you'll get some power. I'm getting 1-2mpg better on highway.
This is how the intake sounds (sound is recorded using Zoom HD from inside the cabin, both windows are down): |

Have you ever been to a BMW CCA club race and saw how many cars run these style intakes? I guess non of the top CCA club racers have any clue what they are doing nor does BMW because they made one of the sexiest "hot air" intakes ever made.... I guess you are smarter then all the engineers at BMW.
Infact when I dynoed my car with the "hot air" intake it made more power with every pull.

I have a Rpi scoop , Afe intake elbow and Afe in panel filter on my Z4M..I haven't dynoed my car yet but when I drive the car I don't feel more hp than stock but not feel less horsepower as well.

What's funny is that Jimi soundtrack perfectly describes the before and after change in the car...
