Confused on VIN options break down
08 Z4
My car is vin decoding to these options... https://www.mdecoder.com/decode/lx85881 Does this have a M suspension on it vs a "normal" suspension? Looks like this car MAY have added options above other Z4's of this year. At 57k miles, very clean car I am trying to put a value on the car. What say you all? New tires, clean interior, slight bolster where on drivers seat, very slight. New top motor under warranty in 2012. Carfax shows car living in CO, LA CA, Vegas until 3 years ago. Seems the M options make the car worth more than without? Last edited by 2008si; 01-10-2020 at 11:35 AM.. |

Is this your car? If so it should be pretty easy to visually determine what options were installed versus not, but yes the VIN registers as a car leaving the factory with M seats and M suspension.
I wager KBB or NADA values will be fairly accurate on this, however there is some enthusiast interest in the 3.0si and MSport models. Being a roadster, automatic and Midwest located will not help. |

Gotta agree with 86Zed's comments.
Putting your vehicle, its mileage and options (with condition listed as excellent) into Edmunds, this is their evaluation...obviously it's just a guide. Trade In Value: $9,136 Private Party Sale: $10,862 Dealer Retail: $13,816 The sport suspension option didn't add much to value. It accounted for $32 in trade, $44 in private party sale, and $66 for dealer retail. The car's mileage and condition accounted for the most significant increase in the price evaluation. |

The car was a western car till 2.5 years ago. So it is not a midwest car so to speak, none of the undercarriage rust of any sort you would see in a midwest car.
The online car value things don't allow you to put in most options, surly not the M stuff this car has. Reasearching car online, same year, SI model, with same to near same miles and shape, the pricing is anywhere from 10-15k. I realize it is winter and Verts don't sell as easy or for as much as maybe in spring. Quote:

I certainly would make an effort to prepare the car for sale in the spring, more eyes, bigger pockets, etc.
A dealer, wholesaler, etc. is not going to see huge value in the car and will ultimately offer you ~$3K under where they expect to sell it at. If you are preparing it for that type of sale, give it a thorough wash outside, inside and in the engine bay. If you want to try private sale start digging up maintenance history, a recent Carfax report and good quality pictures. These forums, BMW classifieds or Facebook Marketplace will be your best chance of finding an enthusiast buyer. Since the car is 10+ years old an informed buyer would also want to know the status of bushings, belts, trim, etc. A little bit of effort can go a long way. |

Maint history is what kills me. I have none. It has the PCV recall that I will be having done next week and I know the top motor was replaced in 2012 under warranty via a friend at a BMW dealer that was able to give the info on it verbally but can't give me paperwork to back it up, he could not tell me anything about the car otherwise. The carfax shows several things, new radio 5 years ago, oil changes, normal maint check stuff. I have nothing else otherwise.
I do know all the tricks to make it look good to sell. I am not like those that sell stuff that has not been cleaned before hand :>) This car was bought from an old man that wanted one last sports car at age 75 so he was the one that bought it out of Vegas, he got sick, thus it was sold a year later after he got it. My 81 year old MOM wanted a sporty car one last time. She liked these so I picked it out for her. A year later she does not want it due to in her mind bad blind spots with the top up making her scared to drive it. I don't need it as I have a 72 Skylark convert, don't need another convert, ha ha ha. |

Has anyone ever had luck through BMW USA getting maint history? I know when I had a Mini the dealer I got it from was able to see maint history done to the car that was done at mini/bmw dealers.

That is what I call a fully loaded car. I think it has every possible option!
PLUS: - M Sport suspension - M Sport seats MINUS: - Automatic transmission - Navigation system NOT DOING ANY FAVORS: - Common color combination Assuming it is a clean driver quality car with clean CarFax I'd think you might reach $14K to $15K with a good presentation. |
