I don't normally consider items that are already available simply due to Life being so short and knowing I'll be limited to being mortal.

If I ever get ahead of my punch list that's currently formed, I'll always listen to the audience that is buying for sure.

While you're correct - there is an OEM hard top available... look at the S2000 market. The aftermarket hardtop offerings for that car are plentiful and people buy them like crazy, even at $3k-$4k. I realize that there are many more S2000s out there than Z4s, but being that BMW no longer produces them it may be a lucrative option for you. I know I want one really dang bad.

Good points. I was under the impression that the Z4 hard-top options were still quite available as demand gets met by the occasional sale of one, even here on Zpost ?

Hard-top development is very time consuming R&D and requires a lot of hardware to properly fit and wear. Not to mention the rear glass selection. It would have to be a very well responded to Group-buy to make it worth pursuing.

The only hardtops I've seen for sale were poorly maintained, IE needing paint, liners, missing parts, etc. I have tried to order an AW OEM hardtop on 3 different occasions and been told that no dealerships have them available. Also, $3500 is tough to swallow - especially for something that I am not totally enamored with when it comes to looks. I had one on my S2000 and I was in love with it. The best of both worlds - top down when you want it, hardtop on when you don't.

Hardtops in general get chipped and banged due to being awkward items to handle.
Price-wise.....I certainly can't beat their price-point on such an involved project given the steps involved.Sometimes there is a reason for a higher component price aside from market demands.
So for now....I'll remain concentrated on the Moon-roofs and CF parts. We could re-visit this another day when I'm caught up.

there are currently 11 AW hardtops available in germany. any dealer should be able to get one for you within 2-3 weeks. if you're a CCA member, the cost should be under $3k.

the only risk you'll have is damage to the top during frieght. you may be able to work something out with the selling dealer to have repairs made if needed.
