EGR/SAI Delete

Has anyone deleted or removed the secondary air pump that pumps air into the cats when starting? I wonder what kind of CEL I will get? Does the forward or rear O2 sensors send the error? Or is there an error? I am told deleting it will save you about 7 lbs. an clean up the engine compartment.

Thank You
Paul

I also wonder what kind of CEL you would get if any. On older cars you could just remove it. All it does is blow extra air into the engine for the first couple minutes to help emissions.

EGR is something different though... thats exhaust gas recirculation and is a different way to help emissions. The M54 has both and though both can be deleted, generally only the secondary air pump is.

Well I did the delete today. And after the first running around town, no check engine light. Somewhere I read that the SAI doesn't doesn't activate or the pump does not turn on until the ambient temperature Is below 50°. Since I keep the car in the garage even during the winter my ambient temperature may never drop below 50°.

Well I took the car to work and still no CEL. I am hoping this is a sign that it won't come on. That part of the engine looks better with out the pump and its hose. I am tempted to remove the heat shield so the header is more visible.

To be honest. I can't see that the little heat shield can't do much. What's wrong showing off the headers? I take a lot of pride in my car!

Besides we all have a little ricer in us. Hell most of my carbon fiber accessories is from CHINA!!

A flux capacitor would fit nicely.

Actually the mount is welded in place. I already have an idea as to what I want to put in that area. I will see if I can come up with a mount for an oil catch can, with a pleasing appearance.

Yesterday I thought this was a frivolous mod.
Today I put on my VT motor mounts, and the SAI was TOTALLY in my way.
I didn't have a new gasket, so I couldn't remove the valve, so I couldn't get the heat shields out, so I had to use a U-joint to get the top right motor mount nut off.
And when it broke loose I lost the skin off 2 knuckles on the sharp friggin' cheese grater on top of the pump.

THE SAI MUST DIE!

Removed the SAI on my Z4MC today and scanned the car for Readiness and Codes before removal and then after a short drive post removal.

There is a Readiness check for this pump so I suspect that once the ECU tries to turn it on (cold day possibly), this check will fail.
