Cable in glove compartment
Hi,
My ‘06 Z4 M roadster has a cable in the glove compartment which the previous owner attached an Apple adapter to so I assume it works with the sound system but when I plug in my iPhone, I cannot get any of my music to play. Is there a setting on the radio I should use? A special station? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Lisa |

Does it charge your phone? If so, it might be connected to a power source that simply charges devices (no audio). I could be wrong. Without more info to the other end of that cable it's hard to tell.
If you suspect this is indeed connected to the radio try switching the mode to Aux and let us know if your hear anything from your device.

With your iPod/iPhone plugged into that connector, what options do you get when going through the MODE button?

It showed up as if it were a trunk-mounted CD changer in the mode selection. I discovered that if I turned the car off with it still selected as an input, it often wasn’t available as a mode on the next startup. I’d suggest trying this: With the car running, turn off the stereo (press the left knob), then wait 10 or more seconds before turning off the car. Wait a minute or so, then start the car. With an iPhone/iPod connected and playing music, turn on the stereo. Cycle through the modes and see if there’s one called something like “CD 1-01” available. If it’s an iPod integration kit, and it’s still working, you’re in business. If that’s the case, just make a habit of turning the stereo off before turning the car off when you’re done driving. Or, consider a BlueBus unit - that’s what I eventually moved to. |

+1 on the BlueBus idea. I've been using it for years and it just works. I think the only thing that would make me move away from a BlueBus is an elegant Carplay solution.

I’m right there with you. And if the CarPlay solution didn’t provide comparable audio quality, I’d use them both side by side.
