Brake release delay

Every newer bmw (2007-newer) that I have driven has extreme brake release delay. Is there a cure or even a valve that is temporarily restricting flow.

Has (hill start assist)
Starting a manual shift vehicle on a hill can be a challenge. With Hill Start Assist (HSA) taking off on a hill from a standstill is made easy, even for inexperienced drivers. When the driver's foot moves from the brake to the gas pedal, HSA maintains the brake system pressure for up to 1.5 seconds, releasing the pressure smoothly as the car accelerates. The driver has plenty of time to control the gas pedal and clutch, ensuring just the right amount of torque at the rear wheels for a smooth, skillful hill start. HSA prevents the car rolling back without frantic operation of the parking brake.

Any tips appreciated.

Not sure why this is an issue?
Does it not release as soon as you engage clutch & gas?

Are you thinking that the brake drags until timed out?

Hill Start Assist should not even come into play on flats. Even on slight inclines, I don't feel it engaging.

What's the problem? It's not letting go?

No, it let's go. I just was hoping that there was a one way valve that could be removed, so it would be like cars used to be. I find it annoying waiting 2 seconds to roll back.

I also was concerned that it happens during normal driving, although it isn't noticeable.

Sometimes I hate technology.

why do you wait for it to roll?

once you start engage the clutch (before friction point) the brakes release, even if you're within the timeframe

I believe these 3 things need to happen to engage hill assist:
Have to be on a hill (3% or greater incline)
Foot on clutch
Foot on brake

If you don't do all of these, you won't engage the assist and car will just roll.

If you just trying to roll back without going into reverse, like lets say you've parked on a hill and you're trying to get a little space from the person in front of you, you should just be able to pop into neutral, let the clutch out and roll back.

If you just miss the sensation of rolling back as you start, I would just try to adjust. The hill assist is extremely unobtrusive and works really well. Drive like normal and it will stay out of your way.

If it is somehow interfering with your driving in anyway, maybe something needs to be fixed. The feature works pretty flawlessly from what I've seen, though.

I find it a useful feature. Why would you want your car to quickly roll backwards while on a hill? Maybe I am missing the point.

I guess you could look into removing the synchronizers in your transmission to make it more like the original manuals?

Found this looking through my MK60 module using NCS Dummy.

HSA START-OFF ASSISTANT (PREVENTS ROLLING BACK WHEN STARTING OFF ON SLOPES BY LIGHTLY HOLDING THE BRAKES FOR 2 MORE SECONDS AFTER RELEASING THE BRAKE PEDAL)
wert_00 Hex Data is 00 also 0 for normal numbers.
wert_01 Hex Data is 14 which is 20
wert_02 Hex Data is 1C which is 28
wert_03 S54B32 This is selected on my car Hex data is 34 which is 52 decimal.
wert_04 Hex Data is 24 which is 36.
wert_05 N52B30+OL
wert_06 Not for (S54B32 or N52B30+OL or N46B20+!AUTOMATIK or (N52B25,N52B30+UL)+AUTOMATIK)
wert_07 N46B20+ no AUTOMATIK
wert_08 (N52B25,N52B30+UL)+AUTOMATIK

There are a few different options and not all of them are readily apparent. Hope this gets you off to a start.

8/29: Updated with some of the data for different options. Just a guess but it might be possible to change the amount of time that it holds the car (maybe turn it off with 00). Wert_5 through 8 don't seem to apply to our cars.

Did this system change between 2006 and 2007?
Now I'll have to play with it some more to be sure, but mine seems to hold indefinitely, until I start to lift off the clutch.

I'm with seank. I've gotten used to it, but the first 6 months I had the car it was messin' with me because I wasn't expecting it.
A car with this kind of torque doesn't need hill assist.
I learned to do hill starts in a '63 bug with 30 whp and less torque than a Wal-Mart dollar bin 1/4" ratchet.

I updated post #10 with some more info. My only guess would be that if it can be disabled that Wert_0 would do it. I don't know what the data represents (seconds or fraction of seconds of brake hold maybe?).

I updated my previous comment. It doesn't look like being in gear was necessary to engage start off assistance. To roll you must be in neutral and let the clutch out.

It just annoys me. Call me impatient. When I am backing out a drive way down a hill, I don't use the gas pedal. I just roll back.

I was also concerned that it happens at other times.
