Call me crazy

Go ahead and laugh. I've got cats that keep jumping on the car and I'm tired of taking the cover off and on every time I take the car out. The thought behind it is to deter them from jumping up. V1 just the tubing was a fail. V2 slowed them down but then they were jumping over the back. V3 with the cardboard overhang has been cat free for three days now.

I solved that problem quickly with a big glass of cold water aimed squarely at my snoozing rooftop tabby!

oh this is awesome!!! My first car I ever purchased whenever I was at my wife’s (fiancée at the time) their cat would always jump on my car I and take a nap, I feel ya. A history on that cat my father in law found him in the Ford plant as a tiny kitten where I now work at, broken leg, vet said there was no chance it living, wife took care of it and lived to 13/14 took several rides back and forth under the hood of my father in laws truck when it snuck in back and forth to the Ford plant.

Preaching to the choir, I just don't let them out in the garage anymore unless I'm out there working.
Ted, my shop assistant.

The solution to your problem is in your own words: " I've got cats. . ."
Waste the cats, junk the litterbox, keep the Z4.
I parked my Lexus SC400 outside overnight at a friend's house many years ago, and it cost me a bundle to have my guy polish out the scratches on the hood surely generated when some feral felines slid off the steep slippery hood. Cats and cars just don't mix very well.
Of course, that's just my opinion; I could be wrong.
PS: love the photos demonstrating your frustration.

Okay you're crazy. And I'm laughing too.

That is some impressive innovation!

He does earn his keep, when it comes to mice, voles, moles, and squirrels, he's a serial killer.

It's good to know that "He does earn his keep, when it comes to mice, voles, moles, and squirrels, he's a serial killer."
Something like that would have saved me the surprise I found under the hood after not using the car for about two weeks:
