Code P0017, 2AA5

Seems like what was a very smooth VANOS rebuild turned out to be not so

I’ll keep my story short
- car seems to run perfectly fine
- P0017, and 2AA5 popped up after driving about 40km
- replaced the exhaust cam sensor first, using the pelican parts test and seem to suggest sensor is dead, but code came back after replacing the sensor

One local BMW shop thinks the exhaust spline maybe a tooth off
Besian thinks it maybe a faulty solenoid and has offered to replace it.

The question is, what is code 2AA5 and how is it tied to P0017, google did not tell me what is code 2AA5 in the S54

Any help I’d appreciate it at this point.

Thanks, so it sounds like with cause 1 and 2 eliminated, its something to do with the sensor reluctor, so the cam? Timing was checked multiple times and it was in time when i put things back together
Maybe the indie BMW shop is correct that my exhaust spline is a tooth off..
