Tekarbon spoiler attachment

I got my spoiler today. I had assumed some 3M automotive tape would be used to attach it, but I was expecting the bottom of the spoiler to be fully flat. Instead, it's empty except for a thin line on each side.

Do I need to just cut said tape to size, or does somebody make an automotive tape that'll work for this?

How flat is flat? Should it be 100% perfect?

Did you get a replacement from Tekarbon?

IMO it should fit perfect. It’s a replica of the OEM one and should fit like it.

Mine didn’t fit correctly. It didn’t curve to the hatch lid, so the ends stuck up. It looked terrible

Install was done ages ago (before 2015) by an independent BMW specialist. It is not flat at the very edge (driver and passenger).

If you had taken that spoiler to a body shop to install they would have sanded the center down so you got a tight fit all across. It is pretty easy job to do if you have access to a floor mounted belt sander, I guess it could also be done with a hand held sander but you would have to do multiple test fits to make sure you weren't taking too much off in one area.

When done, seal up the raw surface on the bottom with that new rattle can 2 part clear coat and you're done.

Y'all care a great deal more than I do, purchased the car with it installed and never thought twice. Certainly could be massaged to perfection, however that gap is mostly due to no servo tape being present in that final half inch. Having a larger flat surface the full length of the trunk would certainly create more chances for poor fitment. Tolerances on mass produced pieces…

Quick google search shows similar fit for Tekarbon applications on the Z4. Same since day one

Yeah you're right, it's not very important but if I can't drive the car yet I might as well talk about it. Spring is almost here.
