sub3000 pounds possible for a street/track car?

I am looking into getting a Z4mC. Mostly will be driven on weekends with about 5-10 days on the track.

I am not looking for more power. But looking to reduce weight. I'd love to get the car sub 3000 pounds without doing a full race build.

I searched this forum, but honestly there isn't much from a weight standpoint. It is either full race build to get to 2500 or like 50 pounds from seats.

Anyone know the road to 3000 or below pounds in this car and keep it streetable?

Light wheels, big brake kit with forged alu calipers, lithium battery, race buckets, removing the interior behind the seats will get you sub 3K lbs if you don't try to put in a half-cage. With a decent half cage and aero, you'll be closer to 3,150 lbs like my track+street Z4MC.

Not too hard to get under 3k
My car with all aftermarket exhaust, racing seats, bbk, coilover, rear gutted, bulkhead removed, lightweight battery, speakers removed was at around 2900 lbs

Totally forgot about the exhaust weight savings - I'm still running stock except headers to keep it quiet and under-the-radar

I kept my speakers and AC too, so I can listen to podcasts in cool comfort to and from the track.

This.... I am 3090ish with a Weichers bolt in rear cage, recaros spgs, and full exhaust and square 275 tire set up. My brother has the same set minus the half cage and he is around 3030ish. We both still have AC and all interior panels.

I have thought about ditching the AC since that would be a quick 30-40 pounds. 90% of the time I am windows down but there are those days though when it comes in so handy.

I really would like to find a way to drop another 50-100 lbs but i fell this would be expensive. I am watching the MCast and his Goke GT4 kit to see how much weight if any that drops. If it drops another 20-30lbs and the body panels are 10mm wider to accommodate bigger rubber that might be the next step.

The last few pounds are hard... really hard... and probably expensive..

Its especially dis-hearting when you add the weight back in in form of a cage...

There’s a weight reduction thread that many of us in this thread provided details and corner balance weights in.

https://www.zpost.com/forums/showthr...=800067&page=3

In short, easy to get to with everything mentioned about (bbk not necessary) but once you add a roll bar in it’ll get you just over 3k again.

Keep in mind that a prepared e46 race car (HS or HP with BMW Club Racing) has a minimum weight of 3,142lbs With driver so ~3k lbs is not a bad place to be.

IMHO, that minimum weight for HP is a big reason the class has not been successful. At 3,142 lbs, the cars are a pig on track. IP at 2,970 lbs makes for a more lively car (and the numbers in IP support this premise). If the club allowed HP at 3,000 lbs I think we’d see more cars in that class.

Oddly, the E86M is classed in GP with a minimum weight of 2,972 lbs.

Good point... part of the reason why I chose to race IP this year. Miss the z4MC but the IP weight/power and competition is great.
