3d Design Gauge Pod -Stack Gauges

Here some photos of my Gauge Pod installation -Coolant temp;Oil Pressure ;& Boost Gauge- Along with the under hood installation and finsihed look - Gauge pod looks as if it "belongs" but console has to be removed and the pod is installed from the bottom.
I'll try and answer any questions

If i did another install I would say 4 hours in total. It took me about 8 hours in total working on them as time permitted and not having done this before.
Now "discovery work" would be much less!!
Example- can use the gear shift light wire for the dimming feature.
Any other questions let me know

VT1 has been great!! Driveability is as before install but with much more power . Only hikcup was a breaking down at 6000 rmp and new spark plugs took care of that . Acceleration on the track is awsome (our track is 2.5 kms with 11 turns so quick acceleration really helps-Google "Atlantic Motorsport Park"). I have followed the VT 2 kit installs with interest and hope that over the winter the bugs that seem to be fixed by "trial & error" will be corrected and it will be as the VT1 kit-then I'll consider it .

Noticed that you have the temp sensor in a spacer in the upper rad hose. Was there any reason why you did not use the block drain for the sensor? I'm asking because I'm making the same install and I was expecting to use the block drain for the sensor. Btw, really like the gauges. I'm using AutoMeter myself.

Nice job Wayne.
I still love to have a full set of gauges someday.

FWIW
This thread shows another location for an oil sender, instead of the cap mount.

When I ordered the gauge kit ,this is what 3D design recommendated and I received the kit I saw that the quality of the coolant hose adaptor was 1st rate(Aluminum piece with inlets raised for sealing as the hose slips on) and the oil filter cap was excellent quality-also has an extra oil port with sealing plug that can be easily removed to manually check oil pressure, Also,i mounded the boost gauge sensor on a bracket i fabricated to fit where the hood sensor for alarm mounts.

I think we'll soon need a consolidated gauge pod thread.
There are snippets all over the place.

When it comes to senders there are several pick up point options & methods to wire them back.
It be nice to compare.

hmm bear with me, i'll dig the info out but its the perfect location for the oil pressure and even better i ran al the wiring WITHIN the stock sheathing... you simply cant tell theirs aftermarket wiring under my hood....

The main reason i wanted it in the spare port next to the oem low pressure sensor was mainly for accuracy, oem like install and i wanted to keep the oil filter house as just that.... an oil filter housing.... for me i simply didnt want to have to disturb wiring for my gauges at every service...

ill grab you this info today but i can tell you i managed to find a local motor place that have the correct adapter that fits perfectly and was under 20 bucks......

That's great... Thanks, I appreciate the help !!!
Your reasoning is exactly the same as mine. I want this as OE looking as possible.

I want to do the same for the water temp using the block drain down location.
I'm pretty sure the water is an M14 - 1.5

If you happen to have any pics of what you did for both locations, that would be fantastic.

this video is rather old now with losts of under bonnet changes but it shows clearly the oil pressure position.... bmw gave us a spare oil pressure port?? why not use it??? its alittle more difficult in terms of install but once in, really is forgot about it.... check from about 30 seconds...

i dont have water temp as the car shows an amber warning when it gets to warm, and a red before overheating.... not ideal but i didnt want to waste my gauge space for water temp, my car has never shown even an amber light even in the 30 deg C all day track days....

i have stack boost pressure in psi, stack wideband and oil pressure in psi, also show in the video....

again all gauges have been routed within stock wiring sheathing and is completely undetectable....

sweet!
That's exactly what I was thinking
Do you happen to remember the size of adapter you bought for that spare port?
I have access to local sources but so far can find the size spec on realOEM parts or in the TIS.

Ill get you a link from the exact place I got it from, You can see the part in my clip, it was a risk but the part fitted like it was a BMW piece.

Will report back.
