Much like all-season tires, there isn't really a pad that is great for all scenarios. I switch before/after every event, between OE street pads and Hawk DTC-60's for the track. It's really not too difficult and gives me a chance to do a thorough cleaning and inspection of the wheel well area before/after a track day.

I'd rather know I have a capable pad for each driving situation, rather than the feeling in the back of my head to be easy because my pad choice was a compromise.

Thats good advice, greatly appreciated.

PFC 08 really is the best enduro pad. I can easily get 8-10 events (mix of 1/2 day events). I do like the extra bite from the 11's but it's easily worth the trade-off.

New shoes!

Specifically, Pirelli Cinturauto P7 225/45/17 conventionals. Replaced the runflat version that was onboard when I purchased the car.

Bought an ECS polished billet dipstick. Got the notification email that they have a limited qty sale on them so scored it for only $17. As of right now it's still listed at that price.

Just make sure that it is of the correct length. They had a batch that were well too short.

Yes, this has been on my radar for a bit so I followed that thread closely.

I imagine since they found out about/corrected the issue they wouldn't be selling this defective units, but it'll be the first thing I check anyway.

It's a new supercharger from ESS, the G1. It's a kit. The install is cake if you have a fair amount of wrenching experience. I didn't think to take video or photos until I was mostly done. I may put together a supplement to the supplied install manual to clarify some of the more difficult parts though.

Which engine do you have? Looks like the 3.0? I've been having a hard time finding one for my 08 3.0si.

Ah, sorry. It's a 2007 3.0si. Same engine and manifold as you have.

Ooohh 3.0si with the 3-stage intake manifold. I hope you didn't have to give that up.

What kind of horsepower are you supposed to be getting?

Any thoughts about putting in an LSD? That would be a seriously sweet combination.

It keeps the mainfold but, gratefully, deletes the stupid white noise machine (doing generator).

I'm at a high altitude (Denver, CO) so the air is a lot thinner. As such I'm running a smaller pulley to get more boost to compensate. I expect 300 or a little more at the wheels which is what the old version of their kit made. I can't really go full out yet, the supercharger needs to break-in and the ECU needs to adapt to all of the changes.

I haven't really pushed it yet, need to log a couple hundred miles first. When just driving casually you barely notice it. The acceleration curve is so smooth. Depending on what gear you're in the the thing really wakes up around 2500-3000RPM. The power increase is very linear so when you're steadily accelerating you feel it but it's not a "wow" moment. When you're driving a little harder, down shift and stomp on it...well, you can't help but giggle a little. Naturally, the car is louder while driving, there's constantly more air moving through the engine.

I'm going to use ISTA and delete all the adaptations for fuel quality/octane, Valvetronic, Vanos, DISA and throttle. After bringing it up with one of the guys at ESS I think it might be better to let it learn the new characteristics based solely on the base trim values versus trim values which are no longer remotely valid.

The supercharger makes a lot of rattling/gear lash noise at idle. I'm told it's normal by both ESS and Vortech owners and that it should lessen a bit as it wears in but that there will always be some chatter at idle.it goes away at just under 1krpm. It makes me cringe and panic a little. I'm used to turbos and their quirks, I suppose I'll get used to this.

I've switched to a 15% mix of E85 in order to raise the octane of my gas. The minimum octane for the ESS kit is 93 octane. I'm running a smaller pulley to make up for the difference so instead of the 91 that would be required with the standard pulley I need to bring my octane up to 93 at a minimum. Talking to the tuner at ESS, both the tune and the injectors have enough headroom to run with some E85. Should be the same for someone at sea level who wants to run a smaller pulley (115mm). The stock pulley is 120mm.

A friend asked if a different belt is needed for the different pulley size. No, it's not. The factory tensioner has plenty of room for a pulley a size larger or smaller. So, 110mm to 125mm... probably a bit more.

I may switch to the 120mm pulley, lowering the boost, until I get comfortable that nothing is going to go boom. You know, until I stop doing compression tests after every drive and temporarily setup a boost gauge and wideband.

I probably should I make a new thread for this, huh?

Too much stuff

Hello all, 1st post after buying a new (to me) 2004 BMW Z4 3.0i. After a shop inspection and a thorough look over I have purchased the following items for my Z4 (yes in the last week)...

Cooling system
-Stewart upgrade pump
-Thermostat
-Upper, lower, and return hoses
-CSF street radiator
-Hardware to replace existing bolts etc

Brakes (all 4 corners)
-Drilled/slotted rotors
-Ceramic Pads
-Replacement calipers (rebuilt and powder coated)
-Stainless lines
-Sensors

Drivetrain
-Valeo SMFW clutch conversion kit
-Brass pivot pin
-New pivot fork
-Input/Output seal
-"Delay valve" delete
-Giubo bushing
-Engine/trans mount bushings
-New differential fluid/plugs

Engine
-eBay headers (we'll see on these)
-New exhaust studs
-Oil filter housing gasket kit
-New spark plugs

Suspension
-New tie rods
-New control arms (HD)
-New CA bushings with poly bushings (hopefully increase longevity)
-Front & Rear sway bar links
-New dust boots
-Adjustable rear trialing arms
---these turned out to be maxpeeding rod items, will be returning as they already show rust and binding at adjustment points

Tools
-low profile floor jack
-jack stands
-ball joint splitter
-impact wrench & sockets
-brake bleeder kit
-creeper

Looking forward to getting clutch/brakes/suspension done soon and getting it out on the road. Cooling system and engine work will likely wait until winter. Wish me luck.

New battery

The 2006 Z4MR I got last month had an old battery (2011, clearly visible in a round sticker on the battery as 5/11), so I went and bought a generic one from Autozone (Walmart was out of stock). Just to all the newbies here - you need H6 battery type, don't worry about anything else. Paid $139 with core replacement. Looks like a computer needs a reset as I already can't put down my top. Hope I can figure it out with the help of this forum :-)
