My Family came over from Ireland well after slavery was abolished. Why would I pay for anything, especially since we were discriminated against too.

Where is the Irish Reperations? ... A Guinness would suffice.

Yup. Democrats support people who had nothing to do with America during slavery; paying people whom had nothing to do with America during slavery. It's just about the level of melatonin in your skin. It's fucking gross.

I agree that as a race they’ve had it tougher to achieve parity in many ways than whites who come here... so I’m not against helping level that playing field. But reparations? For what, damages? Aside from the obvious fact that no black alive today or their parents or grandparents were a slave, are we saying we took them from a better life in Africa? Most Blacks understand how totally imbecilic that premise is.... ask Walter Williams for one, he’s talked about this very eloquently.

I'd love to get the perspective from someone who actually believes in reparations. Not just their confirmation of it, but also their logic behind it and their proposed methodology for implementation. Do wealthy black people get it? What abt those who can't trace ancestry directly to slaves? And who pays? If America pays in general then some of the money will be coming from whites but some from black and Asian and other non-white people. How can you ensure that only descendants of slaves receive money and only from descendants of slave owners? You can't, and that's where the whole thing falls apart.

I can concede, like others, that slavery caused a generational problem for some people that persists, even in the slightest way to modern day. But there's no logical and practical way to solve this theoretical problem. Also think abt this... ~$500billion split between 40million black people... thats abt 12,500 per person. While it's not an insignificant amount of money, (could pay for some nice car upgrades) it's not exactly a game changer for most. Once they go thru it relatively quickly, will be back in the same place as before.

My personal view point is that reparations kind of already exists in a different form: Welfare. It's a social safety net for the disenfranchised, and while there are more white recipients of welfare than black recipients, there is a disproportionately larger share of the black community receiving aid from it. I would venture to guess that more has been paid out to black people through welfare since its implementation than anyone is willing to consider in the form of a lump sum reparations payout.

My family came to Pennsylvania from Germany in 1761 and fought in every major conflict, mainly on the Union side. After the Civil War many went to Texas to fight Mexico, I seriously doubt that they had anything to do with violating anyone’s human rights. I actually think that they did all they could to gain the rights of those oppressed. I guess those politicians, mainly the Democratic are afraid of offending just about everyone.

Both my Mother's and Father's families came to America from Europe in the early 1900s well after the Civil War and Emancipation. Why should I be responsible for any reparations? My family had no slaves.

I traced my lineage back to around 60 BC when Caesar conquered our Germanic tribe, and my male ancestor from back then was made a slave... I’ve never gotten over this, and feel like I’m due reparations from present day Italians... I’ve applied for royalties on Colosseum and Pantheon receipts (built by slaves) to satisfy this... I’ll let you all know how this works out.

You shouldn't have said that, you opened up a can of worms and now you're going to have to give payoffs to Mexicans.

That's quite the family tree! My family is only been in Texas since the 1860s. The only soldiers I know about in my family are my grandfathers as both were in the army during World War II.

My granddaddy was not in the military during WWII but was involved in the Manhattan project through the private sector.

He would tell us stories about the constant friction between the scientists, military and private sector companies involved.

Of course we were too young to appreciate them.

Imagine if President Ocasio-Cortez rounded up the remaining Republicans in 2025 and forced them to work on agricultural co-ops for room and board for her next ten terms. Once she was eventually voted out and replaced by President Beto, people would naturally talk about reparations for the Republican survivors and their families. It would only be fair. It would start through structural and strongly enforced protections that prevent discrimination in housing, pay, education and employment opportunities. But there would have to be direct reparations to all impacted, along with incentives for K12 and higher levels of education to once again teach the fallacious trickle-down economic theory. By 2100 they'd even rename Sanders Airport back to Ronald Reagan again, and tear down the last of the Elizabeth Warren statues.
What you did there, I see it!
