Supersprint advertising N54 E85/86 swap exhaust

I found this to be interesting, Supersprint is advertising an exhaust system for swapping an N54 into the E85/86 chassis, something I'd like to do and was looking into. Anyone have experience with the swap? I'm assuming it would require some sort of standalone ecu.

Odd. Why swap in an N54 when the N55 is a newer design with more reliable high pressure fuel pumps? I didn’t know that this swap was “a thing”. How does one manage the interface with the car’s electronics?

300 hp sounds nice though!

The work involved will likely cost as much as sourcing a 330 hp M car!

Thing is N54 is never a 300hp car.

My wife wants me to do the swap to her 3.0si. Should be happening shortly. It's not exactly a thing, and was never done with a complete engine to the best of my knowledge. Not exactly a bolt in, but that's what hotrodding is about afterall. Exhaust is the least of one's worries though ...

N55 is not exactly more reliable either. It would be however easier as the single turbo downpipe would be easier to route around the pesky RH motor mount that sits in the way of twin N54 downtubes.

Sounds like an easier and better solution would just be to buy an E89 with the N54.

Newer, more luxurious and contented cruiser without the headache or worry about being a swap. If you're really set on the E85/E86, you're probably still better off to buy an ///M and supercharge it.

I think that the later E89 in SDrive 35is trim would be the one to buy.

Although the auto-only might be a deal breaker. IIRC the earlier 35i model was available in both transmission options.

If your going to do a swap, then go big or don't bother imho. Ls swap, 2jz, s85, viper motor etc are swaps worthy of recognition. Otherwise like previously stated, buy the next gen that already came with the motor from factory.

If you're swapping to get attention at the cars n' coffee maybe. But if you are swapping to get more power without destroying the car's other fine qualities, not so much.

The article says it's the 335i motor (N54). Where did you get the additional info from?
