Z4M ST40 all around - braking balance problems?

I did a little searching yesterday and today and didn't see much related to this setup specifically.

Seems like a lot of people are running ST60/ST40 for their Z4Ms, is there any drawbacks for braking balance to running ST40 all around? I got a reasonably good quote on ST40 (355x32) for all four corners, but a friend got me a little spooked that my braking balance might be off a bit.

I'm pretty sure I've seen some people run 4-pot front and rear, with the ST40s specifically, but now I'm not turning up a ton of info on searching, mostly people running ST60/40.

Also, if anyone is experienced with this, does anyone know if there's a difference in spacer requirement for OEM wheels with the ST40 vs ST60?

The only benefit to going with an ST60 versus an ST40 is possibly better cooling (IMO a wash if proper brake ducts are installed) and slightly longer pad life; however, ST60 pads are a little more expensive than ST40. Stoptech designs their kits to not alter brake bias even if you run a front kit with OEM rears.

Many people with E46's run ST40 on all four corners as it offers many benefits. My opinion is to go with the ST40.
1) Ability to rotate friction rings and pads
2) ST40 is a little lighter
3) ST40 pads are a little cheaper
4) 4 piston is the max you're able to run within BMW CCA Prepared Class
5) Cheaper initial cost

Z4M_GT3 just installed this exact setup and might be able to provide better details than me.

I think you mentioned everything on point as I would haha. As far as braking feel, ST40 all around feels PERFECT. I have driven MANY cars with multiple kinds of setups, I must say 4pot 355 all around was my favorite. Stoptech or PFC are the winners for me. I got the ST40 Trophy kit (new one's fixed the pad knock back issue fot track use, so its perfect) and I am VERY pleased with them. =)

But as far as fitment with stock wheels I have nooo clue.

How bad is the knockback on the regular ST40s?

Good points Azeka - to add, I went a bit more aggressive in the rear with larger piston/pad area than front, and it seems the car likes a bit more bias in the rear. Stoptech does a good job of not messing with the bias to begin with, but if it came to that on your application, I don't think you would be in a rut with a bit more bias added to the rear specifically on these vehicles.

For a long time I've been ignored the advice given by people far more knowledgeable than myself that the OEM brakes with proper track pads are fine so I cancelled my order for the StopTechs order and am going back to OE for the next season. Should I still find things a bit lacking, I'll go for the ST brakes, knowing that the ST40 all around should be a good fit.

And kav, I noticed, you commented on my FS: RB thread

For track use, you'll get upset... people usually add springs to prevent it. Springs are super cheap, it's just the labor that sucks..

I'm also running Stoptech Trophy ST40 355mm front and rear. No issues. Ease of pad fitment is a big benefit as is the cost.

As for wheel fitment, I also can't comment on OEM wheels. I can verify that 17" x 9.5" Apex ARC-8 et35 wheels do fit. You need a 5mm spacer in the front to clear the spokes.

I am having issue with Hawk DTC70 pads. I'm getting some fade under really hard braking. When these wear down I plan to switch back to PFC11. The Hawks are cheaper and easier to get, but I like pads that don't fade...

I was just reading your thread, and I should say... damn dude. That is an impressive build. I knew you had run ST40 all around, but I wasn't sure if there was a difference since, well, your car is slightly different than mine
