Questions about oil change.
How often(Mileage/KM) do you guys change engine oil? The service interval
is every 24000km. Should i do it more often, like 8000km once. |

5-8k oil change should be done if u bought out ur car and plan to keep it. 10k is the max i think.

Dealers in the US will go 15k miles, but you may wanna do it more often if you plan on keeping the car. I LOVE to work on cars and it's been rather tough to work on both my Z4 and 5er since the maintenance is included.

I change it between every BMW service...so no more than 6 months between changes...which equates to every 5k miles for me.

4000 miles
Quote:
The service interval display indicates 15,500 miles upon reset, but based on gas mileage the interval is adjusted to reflect driving conditions/style. My first Oil Service interval went negative miles at 11,345 miles on the odo due primarily to high gas consumption (8 MPG) track driving.

consumer reports oil revue
Hi,
just a little info about oil...Consumer Reports did an oil test way back in the mid 90's, trying to, of course, recommend which brand is better. As I recall, they took a bunch of NYC cabs, rebuilt the engines, careful to measure all the tolerances, then let the cabbies drive them a bunch of miles. The end result was that there was little difference between oils. But, lo and behold, they also figured out that us Americans were needlessly changing our oil every 3000 miles! I think they recommended, based on their tests, about every 7500 miles (although you would need to read the article to be sure of this number) dave |
