Great information!

So happy to find this post and thank you for the detailed roadmap to finding the code. I just bought a 2006 M Roadster and there was no original paperwork so this thread was invaluable in establishing my phone's bluetooth connection.

Is this a Bluetooth code for pairing phone, audio, or both?

As far as I know, itís just for your mobile phone. I donít think streaming audio is part of the equation.

Z4 Bluetooth option-2007

Do all 2007 Z4's have BT capability?
I have some were sold without this option.

Doesn't make sense to me that BT would be an option.
Thanks.

Crazy as it sounds, I don't think that every car came with Bluetooth capability. I know - a BMW that was originally around $50K - no Bluetooth? but yeah it may be the case.

If you have the VIN for the car, you can find an online VIN decoder to see if the car has a "mobile phone prep", which I think is Bluetooth.

Or - if you press the talking head button on the left steering wheel spoke - and if your car does in fact have Bluetooth, you should hear the car reply "Function not currently possible" or similar. My car has Bluetooth and this happens if I try to use the phone but my phone's Bluetooth is turned off (which I blame on my kid while he was mucking around with my phone) or if I left my phone in the house.

^ Correct. BT wasn't standard. The other thing to remember is the media renaissance that occurred while our cars were around. BT for cellular calls was a thing but car integration was not as widespread in the auto industry, let alone standard.

Mp3's (& mp3 discs) were the defacto mainstream choice for digital music while BT media streaming was fledgling. I think it was several years after the E85/86 run ended that BT streaming was picked up steam and starting to integrate into cars.

Used this method on a newly purchased Z4 M Coupe - worked great.

Thanks
