No new pictures in a while...mainly because winter mode; garaged.

But here are some updates and items in progress:

- Eurocharged M54 Tune (dyno'd at 233whp) on stock airbox (pre Dinan)
I'm happy, since the car made 225hp Crank in the BMW brochure.
- Dinan Intake
- Custom Carbon Fiber "Scoop"
- APR GTC-200 Spoiler
- BIMECC Stud Conversion
- Mishimoto Aluminum Wheel Nuts
- Ultra Racing 3 point strut bar
- Renown Steering Wheel
- Momo Steering Hub
- Carbon Lip and Mirror Covers
- Maintenance: Some fresh NGK Spark Plugs

To be completed:

- Airbag resistor/software to prevent dash light
- Convertible top open with key
- Other "personalized" key items with software
- Shift and Handbrake boots to match steering wheel.

The next few posts will be what pics I've got...

THE SCOOP

I started this quest, thinking I would go along with the fad of a headlight intake. You know what I'm talking about. Cut into that high beam, throw in a tube of sorts and direct air to the airbox. So after taking off the headlight and bumper I realize that there's already a perfectly good intake RIGHT BEHIND the kidney grill that ducts (fairly smoothly) directly into the airbox.

So low and behold I start looking at scoops. RPI, eBay, Eventuri....I looked em all up. With varying price and availability. I really wanted the DINAN scoop as shown here (http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1327656) but Dinan broke the mold and doesn't make that piece anymore. I called all sorts of dealers all over North America, chasing down spare parts with no luck.

Fast forward to my current project. Custom canards for the front bumper...which I still haven't decided if I'm finished or even going to finish. The amount of black snot in my nose even with a mask put fear in me about the condition of my lungs after cutting carbon fibre plate. There has been one advantage...I have carbon fibre laying around! Not a bad problem.

So I looked at the opening and though....BILL O'REILLY "F**K IT" WE'RE DOING IT LIVE!!!!

This is the intake air inlet...

This is a former pizza box...

This is fresh cut carbon fibre...

This is the finished product...that for me does the trick!

So yea, that was a bit of a home made solution. Plus carbon fibre right? In hindsight I would have used a bigger section...but at least this way I'm not completely blocking the radiator!

I don't know about just a piece of flat carbon. Seem like air would be directed/deflected downward more than into the induction hole without anything to corral it on the top and bottom. You should try some smoke test to prove the theory

So here's another update, a picture of the new Ultra Racing strut tower bar. You can see the new Dinan intake/airbox as well.

I also finished getting rid of the airbag light with the new software. Wasn't that hard actually, although everything is in German so its a lot of reading online.

I tried to change my coming home lights from low beams to the fogs. I managed to disable to low beams, but the fogs didn't come on. So my first foray into programming on this car didn't start off so well. Tonight I'm going to review the coding again and see what I can fix or revert back to the original file. It's definitely interesting going into those modules!

I did the plugs at the same time as changing the strut tower, so in that pic it was off. It's there now don't worry

So not much has changed as she's in storage now.

But while I was moving her around I took a picture of her in her unnatural habitat.

There's a glimpse of the spoiler as well as a the temporarily mounted carbon fiber Schmiedmann lip.

Looking good.
Could do some serious plowing with that lip.

I finally decided to pull the trigger on test fitting my home made CF canards/dive planes. I've been him and hawing over whether or not I liked the shape, and potentially mounting 4 instead just 2, then getting the angle I liked that seemed to be potentially functional.

I'm sure these will divide some people, love or hate type thing. But I'm going to move forward and starting drilling the bumper this week. I've done a test fit and the angle you see is specifically to match the existing curve in the front bumper which is already present as a design element.

Here are before and after pics, yes there are some gaps for the keen eyed as the lip is not mounted yet and the gaps need to be filled between the canards and the bumper. That will wait until I get the bumper itself repainted after finally drilling the mounting holes (stone chips need to go).

Thoughts?

So, some updates from over the winter. The car is back on the road (yay!).

- Smoothed front bumper (licence plate holes filled)
- Tow hook licence plate to suit
- Custom (self made) carbon canards added
- Schmiedmann carbon lip added
- Carbon mirror covers added
- APR GTC-300 Spoiler added
- Converted to studs, Mishimoto lugs added
- Ultra Racing 3 point strut brace added
- Renown Steering wheel added (airbag deleted)
- Shift and Hand brake gates, matched suede and stitching to steering wheel
- New perforated black handbrake to match better
- Dinan intake added
- Custom carbon behind kidney to direct air (as seen in earlier posts)
- Replaced front window surround (needed replacing)

Programmed

- One touch up passenger window
- Donut brake lights (full circle brake lights)
- Key operated convertible roof

Discovered

- Tried to reprogram rear light cluster to accept LED bulbs. And although you can program constant 12Vs to the bulb meaning it doesn't flicker, this now means the brake lights don't get brighter. Tried numerous "values" in the programming and it won't work. Old school bulbs or full face lift conversion are really the only options.

- Lots of other programming options for coupes and roadsters, I'd be willing to chat if anyone local is interested, or wants to pay for a burger/beer

Other

- Camber wear at -3 degrees is more excessive than I thought. Going to raise the rear, lower the front and pic up some camber arms.

Pic time!
