Post Hood does not pop up when pulling latch

Hi! I was wondering is the hood supposed to stay flat when pulling the hood open lever under the dash?

On my other cars when I pull the hood open lever the hood springs up about an inch then I can pull the front latch to open.

On my Z4 when I pull the lever under the dashboard the hood stays flat and I have to put my finger in the the corner above the headlight to pull it up a little to then pull the second latch and the hood floats up with the lifters.

The hood on my 07 Z4 pops up a little when I pull the latch. Not sure what the mechanism is that makes it happen.

There are two spring loaded "buffer pins" that commonly fail.

Those were bad on both of my Z4s. I just reach under and lift.

Did you replace these? Does the hood lift any higher when released?

On my 3.0si coupe it was smooth as butter. On the M, there’s a lot of tension in the hood release lever, almost like it’s going to snap.

Prefacelift are different than post latches. Both my 03 and 07 pop up when pulled. I’m sure there’s a thread deep down somewhere but pre the latches get a bit corrodie from the elements being in the front with rain snow salt and grit from the road causing very sticky latches. Post there’s the D style latch relocated to the sides instead of right next to the front lever release. If you have a prefacelift some white lithium sprayed periodically and good cleaning can keep the front latch from getting sticky.

Mine never popped up all that much. I bought two of these to replace the old buffer stops that no longer raised up.

I recently order a pair of these rubber buffers with ejectors from my dealer. The original ones contained springs to push up the electors but the bottoms appear to be blown out probably from years of use.

The same ejectors can also be installed on the rear lid of the e85 to pop it up a bit higher upon opening. The OEM rubber buffers on the back don't normally have ejectors so you can swap them out.
