I'd like to see more pictures of the scoop setup with the hood open. What does the duct work look like? Is it only visible from the kidney grills? Or could you take some pics with the bumper off?

I'm curious to see what the whole thing looks like.

If this is what you were referring to...

It still doesn't tell me much. And I still think the scoops would benefit from being more rounded in shape...I'd also like to know if you could hook up the ram air system to different intakes, such as the ACS system...

The square one will get in more air as the diameter will be bigger than the round and i am sure you can use it one acs system but why spend more $$$ if you can have the same of not better effect with the scoops and the bmc filter...

The reason I believe the scoop is effective is because of the terrible design qualities of the OEM scoop. It sits perpendicular to the front of the car, which means airflow hitting the car head on wont go into the scoop, which essentially defeats the purpose of the scoop. Air would have to flow sideways to get into the OEM scoop, what the RPI scoop does is it captures that forward flow of air and pushes it into the intake track, the original scoop relies on suction from the intake which is fine for the intake but as we know more air, more fuel, more power. I would draw what it looks like in paint but it'll look terrible so hope the explanation makes sense. If not you can check RealOEM and see what the part looks like or just take a peak behind your driver side grill with a flashlight.

Zeddy4Me, what is needed from the people that dont have an M and dont live in your area. Can he can ship the setup to us? Is there any angles the scoop has to be in? Any details like that we should know about.

More to the point, has anyone even tested one of these on a non-M?

I don't think it's as simple as you make it out to be. The RPI scoops are nearly perpendicular to flow of air as well, which means that you'll lose some air that'll basically reflect off of it. I understand space is an issue but a more curved design would gather the air better.

I'm not sure about the OEM intake...there should be something in the way of the air to direct it towards the air intake, but I'm sure suction is part of it.

laidback - you posted up that you noticed an increase in sound - is it fairly noticeable? This system seems great but if there would be a way to make it sound as good as sixspeed's car (he has a gruppe-m) that would be phenominal...

The increase in sound is not that significant...probably due to the BMC filter and the air coming in is not restricted any more hence the increase in sound...5-10% increase in sound...throttle response is also very good and with the sport mode the car just keeps on pulling forward

I took off the driver side grill and saw only the intake scoop which had about a 1/2" opening and was definitely perpendicular to the front of the car. And by perpendicular I mean its recessed coming out of sort of where the driver side headlight ends and also very high up. I didn't see any sort of ducting to help out the OEM scoop which is how I formulated my idea. Of course if you dont believe me you can always take a peak yourself.

As far as the scoop design goes, I'm not the one designing/making the scoops, RPI is and if they are able to pull out 8.5 WHP with a drop in filter and the scoop, it could have spikes coming off of it and be bright pink I'm pretty sure all of us would still get it. If you feel a rounded design would be better dont purchase the product and start fabricating your own scoop. When you're done and you produce more WHP gain the attention would surely be shifted over to you.
