VER has been outperformed by RIC whom also outperformed VET. VER has had shrubs as team mates so we have no real way of evaluating him in a driver-driver situation. It is all speculative.

No one really expects a driver who is only #33 in gpblogs top 50 to be especially talented even after 6+ years in F1.
I think everyone should give Verstappen a break....lets give him a few more years in F1 and he might get the hang of it.

This was my point as well, in jest - MK just said it more eloquently.

In their prime (which apparently MAX is right now) MAX vs. VET I would take VET if they were in the same car.

LOL. I wish they were team mates right now because I am almost sure you won't bet on it. I would bet anyone on it that Max will destroy VET in a heartbeat.

in any case, I think Christian Horner rates Verstappen better than Vettel for sure but, like they say, everyone has an opinion.

Please explain why Red Bull favored Max if they agreed with your opinion that Ricciardo overall is better than Max? They certainly are not seeing or did not take into consideration what you are seeing.

I agree with you, right now in the same car MAX would and should wipe VET. VET is done and well past his prime in my opinion, but in VET’s prime it would be a different story.

there is a missing point i believe.. one of the reasons of that, Red Bull wanted to make Max the youngest champion.. cause "Red Bull gives you wings".. though seems like those wings were not enough.. in the end F1 is an ad platform..

besides.. Ric is now in McLaren.. relatively a better team with less drama and artificialness..

Red Bull did not at all expect Ricciardo to leave the team at the end of 2018.
The problem for DR was that he felt the team favoured MV for whatever reason...better marketing potential perhaps.
DR was the natural choice based on ability...he was ahead of MV in 2016, 2017 and 2018 right up to the moment that DR had 6 DNFs in the last 13 races of the 2018 season.
From their first race together...where DR was inexplicably pitted out of the lead of the 2016 Spanish GP (to 3 stop him) to allow MV to take the win...he had the sense that something was off.

I'm sure Hamilton does have a healthy respect for Verstappen as a racer...even though he is surely confident of beating him in the same car (as would most informed observers including Toto).
But F1 history clearly shows that having two aggressive drivers in the same team most always ends in tears (and crashes).
I wouldn't be at all surprised if this driver veto clause is just another made up story by the media to have a dig at Hamilton...they have certainly been making up all sorts of stories that have later proved untrue...but this one especially appeals to the Hamilton hater part of the audience.

Hamilton has “no power with Mercedes to demand a comfortable team-mate”, that clause “does not exist”.
The reason, it adds, is because the next Mercedes driver has already been decided: “His name is George Russell and not Max Verstappen”.
