I will add seat installation details in the future too. More involved, so it will take some time to tackle.

Weight Comparison: Varis VSDC Hood vs. OE Aluminum Hood

Added the Varis cooling bonnet to the build mainly for cooling properties and aesthetics. Since the stock hood is aluminum and the Varis hood adds structure related to the venting, I figured there wouldn't be much of a weight reduction. 10lbs isn't bad
This is before paint, so actual weight savings will be a little less

Chris, can i ask you to test fit (mock up) the hood before painting mate? that would be awesome, and will hopefully show me if i wanna go down that path for the hood.

Thanks for the updates and also the revisions.

You mentioned that the car will be a show point for your new direction in regards to career/job.. kinda interested to see what you've got in mind mate.

That Varis hood mate… bloody hell… Sooooo nice...

Vanne Beedub

Here is a teaser shot from quick test fit before beginning installation preparation. Nothing bolted down, just wanted to check the gaps/alignment. Fortunatly, gaps look real good!

I really like the exposed carbon look, the hood is beautiful! I go back and forth on the paint vs. no paint. Ultimately, I will probably paint top side leaving vents exposed and leave the bottom completely exposed.
I will post pictures of the hood fully installed before paint

The level of thoroughness and detail is on a serious level within the thread.

Pictures, copy, bullet points and pro vs con is amazing.

This is a superior thread.

Quality Check: OE vs Varis Hood Mounting Point Dimensions

Despite the bueaty of the cooling bonnet, the OCD in me generated concerns about fitment compared to OE. So like any normal car obsessed human being, I took several measurements to verify mounting points. I am happy to report that Varis seems to have gotten this right!

All captured with photos for any other perfectly normal car obsessed human being who may be interested

if i ran without the drain channels would it clear my super charger setup and intake?? is their anyway if you can measure if its reduced clearance?? id guess clearance would be better with the drain channels removed ( i wouldnt run these anyway tbh as my car isn't DD)

Hey Byron,
Not sure what measurements I would take, but if there are specific measurements you want me to check, I would be happy to do it. gmd2003 is running this hood and mentioned fitment being tight (ie, needing to remove vent covers). IMO, if not DD then no problem Though I understand the purpose/function of the covers, they detract from the performance and aesthetics of the hood.

Hoping to build motorsport inspired interiors. Focus being light weight design combined with high end materials. Think GT3 RS, M4GTS and other purpose built track cars with beautiful interiors. Sort of a double upgrade where possible (reduce weight, upgrade materials). This is niche I hope to develop over time. Slow process, but I am chipping away at it.

Rouge Engineering X-Pipe

Lucked out and picked this up used from dorifto88
Saved a few pounds and fits into the plans for adding bypass valves to exhaust system. Running this with DKF resonated S-pipe and Supersprint Powerloops. Whith this combination, I do not notice any really change in volume, tone or rasp

Pros:
  • Great welds/build quality
  • Perfect fitment
  • Weight savings of 4lbs

Cons:
  • None observed

Pre-Install Detail Photos: VRS Rear Diffuser System 1&2, Carbon

Had a hard time finding any detailed photos prior to purchase, so I am sharing these for other members that may be interested.

Pros:
  • Overall carbon fiber finish quality is very good
  • Increased under body coverage and added ventilation
  • VRS claimed aerodynamic benefit
  • System 1 & 2 interface perfectly
  • Additional mounting points added, all brackets and hardware included

Cons:
  • Poor packaging (pieces were bubble wrapped and floating around in flimsy over-sized boxes) I highly recommend picking these items up as close to port as possible. The less time in a shipping companies hands, the better. I hate to imagine how the pieces may have arrived in AZ at the mercy of UPS or FedEX
  • All hardware loose & will need thread-locker or lock washers

Pre-Install Detailed Photos: VRS Cooling Bonnet, VSDC

Had a hard time finding any detailed photos prior to purchase, so I am sharing these for other members that may be interested.

Pros:
  • Top Finish quality is beautiful
  • Enhanced cooling
  • Top notch structural carbon fiber construction
  • Arrived in one piece

Cons:
  • Multi-page quality/finish disclaimer relating to imperfections and lack of clear (not a deal breaker, but should probably be disclosed prior to purchase IMO).
  • Tabs epoxied on to underside to retain grill inserts are cheesy IMO. I was able to see them from the top of the hood at some angles. I removed these and will come up with something better if I install grills. (I would have ordered my hood without these if I was aware of what they were.
  • Mesh grill inserts are a little cheesy. While functional, they don't match the quality of the hood.
