And as one story ends.....
Hey guys, been a while since i have posted been busy driving (youll see what i mean in a sec), well the day has finally come to sell the Z. An interesting day, i have always loved that little blue 2.5 liter I6 but this farewell wont be a heartbreak. As you may know by now i have had my Z since i started driving, and now ending high school i think it was time for an upgrade
The Z sleeping in the garage for its last night with me: By samjam927 at 2009-05-24 And the Z's final departure By samjam927 at 2009-05-23 . . . . . . . . UPGRADED: By samjam927 at 2009-05-23 E60 M has a friend now By samjam927 at 2009-05-23 Its an 06 M roady and I love it, more fun then dare I say it the M5 On an off note, when I shift into and out of a lower gear i sometimes hear this clunking sound from the rear end, exactly like the clunk in the M5 at lower gear, is this normal? and can anybody give me tips on how to smooth out that 1-2 shift, its my first stick car :/

On the 1-2 shift, the common fixes are CDV removal and more revs.
Hey, have you checked out www.chitownm.com, a local club for M owners? They meet in Skokie almost every week, I make it out occasionally, as does "Burt Reynolds." |

Just got my driveline sorted so it finally feels like a proper car.
CDV delete UUC Shortshifter (really got rid of the "mushy" feeling going into the next gear UUC Clutch stop (cut half the threads and twisted the all the way into the floor) Each one helped to significantly improve the shifting of the car. I've always preferred cars that shifted shirt and crisp, after these mods I definitely have achieved that with the M, this is the way the car should have came. I've got a ZHP knob on the way, with the extra weight added to the equation it should make things even better between gears. |

I won't be at this week's meet - I'm road-tripping to the Performance Driving Center for M School - but I'll definitely be at next week's.

The new one is better in every single way, I'm really glad they made it manual only and ditched the horrible electric steering. The old Z mad me really push it to get any decent preformance out of it, in the new ZM i can leave it in 5th or 4th and kill pretty much anything. The low down toqrue is crazy, it feels really closely related to the M5, in the way that if you just go WOT in a high gear it will just throw torque at you and start flying. The brakes are also a huge improvement, the old Z brakes needed an upgrade. The best part though is the sound, I might not put an aftermarket exhuast on the new one just because i love how it sounds already!

Here is the best tip I can give you to smooth out the 1 - 2 shift and it will cost you nothing.
Accelerate slowly, do not shift below 4K. That's it, smooth shifts everytime. Smoother than an automatic. After you master that you can vary it to accelerate faster and shift faster. Same result in smoothness but shorter 0-60 time. Play around, you will get it. |

18, maybe even 17. The ChiTownM club skews way young - I think everyone with an E9x M3 is under 25. I salute them, I'm still kicking myself for letting my brother talk me out of getting a Porsche at that age.

haha yeah, that silver Z was mine. My good old 2008 si. Lol the M was too much power for city driving. lol Good choice on cars! I havent been doing much, driving from chicago to great lakes pretty much weekly...I had a nasty rock chip that day too! it was horrible. It gouged out like an inch of paint lol. sorry no pics, but i went tothe bodyshop and had the whole thing repainted and filled for 600 But yeah, im probably gonna get a clear bra or a stoneguard for my Z4...rockchips makes me sad.
I didnt do anything to the si because there are no aftermarket parts for the N52B30 engine. |
