Valve Adjustment

Hi. I'm about to adjust the valve clearances on a 2008 Z4 M Roadster. I'll need to slowly spin the engine at the crankshaft as part of the valve adjustment procedure. To get access to the crankshaft nut, am I correct that the wide black plastic "cover" at the front of the engine, and the electric fan, both need to be removed? Also, while I'm here, am I also correct that turning that crankshaft nut clockwise (from the passenger side to the driver side) is the correct direction?
Thanks for your help!!

Just remove the intake and you'll have room to access. Clockwise is the correct direction.

^WHS, but I do pull the fan cover and fan. Pretty easy to do and gives you loads of space.

Garage List
Instead of paying $60 for the special crankshaft socket buy this Water Pump Shaft Nut for $10 https://www.bimmerworld.com/Cooling/...Shaft-Nut.html
Install this nut and leave on.
BTW no need to remove the fan shroud.

No special crankshaft socket needed on the Z4.
That's for the M3 with mechanical fan.
Just need a whopping metric socket.
I can't remember what size. 30 or 32mm, maybe. Somebody please chime in.

I'll be diving in next week. Girlfriend has re-directed my efforts to re-modeling the backyard.

Ted,

As an alternative to turning the engine with a wrench on the crankshaft nut, you could put it in sixth gear and push the car by hand. (Unless it's an automatic, of course.)

Good luck with the adjustment!
