Recall experience LOL

Go to take car in to dealership for recall this morning. Service desk guy checking me in, very nice and helpful. Service desk woman next to him says, I'm going to move your car up so we have more room in the garage...I reply that's fine. 1 minute later she comes in and says, "oh you must be here for battery issues, it won't start." I just drove the car all the way there, nor have I ever had battery issues mind you, so I go out to investigate, hop in and it starts right up. I pull the car forward and go back inside. I don't know what she was doing, or if she didn't know how to start up a manual, but man, not exactly instilling confidence when you're about to work on my vehicle...

Can't drive a manual transmission. And no, it does not inspire confidence at all.

Would hate to see what would happen if she got in a newer more expensive manual vehicle, not my 13 year old 72,xxx mi Z4

I refrained from calling her out in front of her coworkers there, but maybe I should have...

Simple answer - she didn't depress the clutch. Sticks really are turning into anti-theft devices.

Said that to my girlfriend just last weekend...leave it unlocked, not like anyone would know how to drive it anyway!

I've done that with the Corvette, with the targa top off and door unlocked. Valuables stowed away in the locked secret compartment behind the entertainment screen. My daughter has asked "aren't you afraid someone might take the car?"

No sweetie. No one knows how to drive a stick anymore.

Really. What are they going to do? Get in the car and rub their naked ass all around the leather seat?

Don't be so sure. Most riceboys drive a manual, and a lot of them are of dubious character. (are my grey hairs showing?)

Are these what the original bunch on Top Gear used to call "yobbos"? I'm pretty certain that "the rozzers" are the police.

And do be careful - my wife can drive a manual shift so she can steal your car! She's a darn good driver too, so neither the rozzers nor the yobbos are likely to catch her.

If you years back at a gas station one minute away from my house, I left my car running yes for the 30 seconds to grab a drink at the crack of dawn.... some drunken delinquent popped out of nowhere, and got in my car trying to takeoff in it…
1) didn't know how to drive stick
2) received a royal ass kicking
3) arrested

In a way, manual did double as anti theft

She knows she can't drive a manual transmission and they hired her anyway for the position.

If someone brings in a car for service and it isn't equipped with an automatic transmission she can't do part of her job they hired her to do.

And you should have asked right there when she came back and said it wouldn't start. It doesn't matter if it's 79,000 mile Z4 or a 3,000 Z8 (non-Alpina) she should be proficient at her job because driving a manual is most likely in her job description.

And your car is Service Writer proof!

Most? I don't buy it. Every time I see one of these abominations speed away from a stop, I hear the fartcan exhaust singing the hoarse tune of an automatic upshifting through the gears.

Yes, our grey hairs are showing.

Didn't even think about that. We should have asked him the appraisal of the "honey factor" in regards to her manual transmission operating deficiency.

To round out the experience, when I went to pick up the car, the dude working the service desk payment area, I must have caught him on his first day. Needless to say, dealership isn't getting a great survey response.

LOL!!! I used to be on a 300ZXTT forum and one of the guys posted a vid. Guy went into the store for a quick sec and left his whip running and someone decided to steal it. He was not quite in it when the guy came out, but he thought he had enough jump on him and kept going. He didn't realize that the only reason it was still running was it was on a turbo timer. You see him struggling to get it going as this beast of a guy makes it to the car and pulls him out of the open window/ttop and started windmilling haymakers on him. It was priceless!

Maybe she just didn't have the reach to push the clutch all the way in?
