Consensus on raising or lowering motor for VANOS removal?

I'm not totally sure I'll have to get into a vanos repair, but I do have an oil leak coming from the area. I suspect it's the solenoid o-rings or vanos gasket, could potentially be the tensioner but there is oil above it, so I'm thinking it's coming from something higher up.

I need to get it cleaned up as best I can and then see if I can tell where it's coming from. Is there one particular thing that is more notorious than others for creating a leak up in this area?

But if I do decide to pull the vanos and check cam gear bolts, hub tabs, make the typical improvements with Beisan parts, so on and so forth, it is better to raise or lower the engine to facilitate getting the unit off?

Neither on the ///M.
There's clearance enough to get it out.
Might want to disconnect the hood release cable and move it out of the way.
I always do. Had mine off 3 times.

Nope you'll have room. Only thing I did was pull my fan which literally took 30 seconds.

Great news, was unaware. It's been a while since I've had to think about this. Car hasn't exactly been neglected, it's in a heated and cooled garage on a battery tender, but it hasn't been driven much, <1000 miles per year for the last couple due to extenuating circumstances. But it's becoming proof positive that sitting is bad - dried out and now leaky gaskets..... Thanks all.
