Okay for those of you interested in doing the weekday run in May, I was thinking of meeting up on the 5th (it's a monday) This will be after the Mini's meet. Please let me know if this works! Hope to hear from everyone by the end of the week so we can set a final date so those that need to make necessary arrangements can do so soon. Also do you all think we should do a two day meet and try to hit as many of the roads in the area as possible? If so let me know.

The problem is trying to get enough people together on the same date. Okay since JHastings suggested the 26th let's keep this as the presumtive date.
JHastings can you look back through this thread and send a PM to all those who expressed interest in doing this run to get a count of people who will attend if we met on the 26th. I will PM those on the other boards who appeared to be interested. We should have a definite date set by the end of this week! |

FYI - MINI Cooper Dragon:
_*MINIs on the Dragon 2008*_ As you are probably aware this year's MINIs on the Dragon is April 30 through May 4, 2008. The good news is that there are more than 20 different activities during the event...from an autocross to MINI Monte Carlo Night and more. The bad news is that registration is WAY down compared to previous years and the major events were designed to handle large numbers of people. Since we are quickly approaching deadlines for rentals and financial commitments needed to support the event we need to see an immediate increase in registrations for the event. Unfortunately because of the cost involved in putting on many of the events if registrations don't increase will will have to scale back the events in some way. With the above in mind I would ask that if you are already planning to attend MOTD but have not yet registered please do so now. If you have already registered THANK YOU! Please encourage your motoring friends to register as well! Decisions have to be made next week so your registration for the event, dinners, first ever car show, MINI Monte Carlo Night, Brew Swap, and other activities will help shape this year's event. Given all the work that the coordinators have put in to make this the best MOTD to date I would hate to see it scaled back based on lack of attendee support. I did the Dragon for the first time two weeks ago coming back from Performance Delivery. I was there about 10am on a Friday and the traffic was extremely light. We also had great weather which made the experience awesome. We ran it 3 times before we headed off to Memphis.
Also, In the latest issue of AmericanDriver, there is an article titled "Taming the Dragon" which is a great write up on the Cherohala Skyway and the Dragon. The history of these roads is interesting. One thing that I was not aware of is that this road was used in the 1958 film "Thunder Road" in which Robert Mitchum is killed in a crash on the Dragon while running moonshine. |

Also if interested....
There were a couple of photographers on the Dragon getting some awesome shots of you driving the course. They will have their websites advertised on their vehicles as you pass by. I got some awesome photos to remember the experience. You can see their work at there websites: www.zeefoto.com www.us129photos.com |
