Trunk behind drivers seat?

2004 3.0 March build - amp looking thing in the trunk under the carpet attached to the cabin wall behind the drivers seat. Car does not have phone capabilities (don't think it was available then) but it did have the BMW assist - I assume this is part of that??? Amp is in the battery well, so I know it is not that.

Anyone have a electronic schematic for it or it's plug? I need a switched power wire to tap and surely that has one? I'd rather not have to run a wire all over creation if there is a wire I can tap there. I can do the multi meter route on all the wires, but be nice to know where to start?

Anyone have any advice? Looking to install a Grom with the DSP adapter which requires me to tap switched power.

Thanks!

Hmmm....OK - not sure how to use this, but I will mess around and try and figure it out.

Thank you!

Start here and see if you find the box you're looking at.
Maybe under Communication Systems.
Then use the link in my previous post to find the connector pinout.

I just can't get that first site to do anything - I assume I am not using it right, but I can't click on anything???

There has to be switched power at the amplifier - right???? I could easily tap on of those and run a wire to the GROM unit as well. I just need it in the trunk area somewhere.

It requires Java, which seems to be an evolutionary dead end.
Newer versions of Firefox and MS Edge won't work.
I can get it to run in Firefox 52.9 and Internet Exploder 11.

I think the amp power is on pin 5, with return on pin 26.
Unfortunately, I think it's hot all the time.

Crap - I figured the amp would be switched. Surely one of the pins on the TCU for BMW assist will be switched I would think. Just have to remove it and get the meter in there and test I guess.

Leave it to me to have the one year with the optical and no connector back there.....

There should be some sort of dimple/tab/mark denoting pin 1.
Then it should number all the way down one long side and then start back opposite pin 1 and down the other side.
If you can count 35 pins and land on one colored VI/WS it's probably it.

BL=blue
BR=brown
GE=yellow
GN=green
GR=grey
OR=orange
RT=red
SW=black
VI=violet
WS=white

BTW - that was EXACTLY right! What a PITA to get to and the wires were covered, so I could not test with a tester, but I found the purple/white one and just went for it - switched power was there. THANK YOU again - that would have been a huge paid without the color info.

Not sure I am going to like the GROM yet, but you got me power!
