Short Shifter

I am thinking about buying a short shift assembly for my '07 Z4 and having it installed by my local mechanic.

Has anyone done this and is it a big job to replace? Does it make a big difference?

Thanks

Before you go that route with a non- M Z I would recommend you change out the BMW "lifetime" transmission fluid with Royal Purple SynchroMax trans fluid. Although I have not done this to my M coupe yet, I noticed massive improvement in my old 330i.

I second the approach of garz747 . Try a heavier, shorter ZHP shift knob and a transmission fluid flush.

When I purchased my Z4M it had a UUC Evo3 short shifter install which has a very direct, bolt-action rifle like shifting experience. Fun when the car is warm and you are hammering on it, difficult 1-2 shift when cold. It broke unexpectedly and I went back to the stock setup while UUC underwent a free warranty repair. Needless to say I did NOT miss the short shifter and still have the stock components in place with a ZHP shift knob.
