Replacing speakers and adding amplifier

Hello!

I have a Z4 2003 with Navigation System Professional and the 6 speaker option. I want to redo the speakers and do a three-way kit system in the door and at the footwell.

I have found information on different forums that my setup doesnt have any Amp, only the head unit. That my 6 speakers are connected to the stereo directly.

What I havent found out is how the frequency filters are applied. Is it:
Actively splitted in the head unit?
Passively splitted by some filters along the cable to the speakers?

My findings in my car so far:
Tweeter
I have removed the tweeter and it has some kind of capacitor connected on the cable near the mounting point in the door. This could be some kind of passive filter for the tweeter.

Midrange (behind the seat)
Havent had this removed yet

Woofer (footwell)
No trace of any passive filter

The reason for my questions is that I want to be able to mount an amp and feed it with a high level signal from the original head unit (as I want to keep it to not disable the NAV setup). And when I feed my new amp with a signal, it must be a full frequency signal to the DSP/Amp.

Any suggestions would be great!

Kind regards Jens
