Coupe CF Trunk Spoiler -Discussion Thread
Hey guys I have seen some chatter about custom carbon fiber trunk spoilers for a coupe. So I wanted to start this thread because I'm thinking of getting one made and if we can all decide on look and fitment we can start getting some prices and possibly start a group buy.
Below are three important topics that should be addressed Look: In my opinion the duck bill look is the way to go, it isn't too aggressive and yet I feel it would really add a nice look to the overall rear of the car. For me the key is to have it simple, clean , and not too big ( 3-4 inches max in height) Should extend the almost the full length of the trunk lid with a 4-5 inch space from spoiler to edge so it does not cover the whole trunk. I also think this will provide height to the rear of the car which will draw your eye up and therefore make the rear of the car seem much wider. Baby got back!! Definitely carbon fiber, matte or clear options. Function: Again carbon would be lightweight. I also feel is should form a "C" shape around the edge of the trunk lid to just above the rear break light. So it will also increase down force and at the same time help to insure it doesn't fall off, in theory the down force would push it back against the car to secure it. : Application: 3m no screws Below are some images of spoilers I found but are not exactly what I want. Maybe someone here has photoshop or good at creating a 3D model. I have a guy here in Orlando that can make it but again price is a big deal for me I don't want to pay more than 250.00 for a spoiler so if we can get a group buy or another forum member has a guy that could do it for that or less with a group buy, i'm all for using your guy. Let me know what you guys think? Oh by the way the last photo of the black wide body one, is custom. I have been taking with the guy and he said he maybe able to get the mold and send it to me. He lives in Dubai so not sure yet on what the price would be for shipping and if it's even worth it...

Great idea - if you can pull it off
The one from the black car looks great, but the wrap-around part may not look so great on cars other than black, unless you color match. Most important thing for me is that the bottom side of the spoiler needs to be closed for more flexibility with applying 3M tape - one of the main reason I didn't get the OE or Tekarbon spoiler was the open bottom design, which leaves very little room for using 3M tape. |

The "Dubai" spoiler is interesting but like others, I think it may need some adjustments to work on other colors and narrow bodies...
I also agree with chasing better quality. I'd like to see a version hang over the hatch like so, and also consider cutouts for aesthetics depending on how high it kicks up.

The spoiler shown was purchased used on this forum and is the Arkym CF spoiler, for your reference. Original list price was $1369, in CF with no paint. I prefer the paint on the sides/ back with the CF on the upper deck left exposed. Should have it back on my car early next week.

FWIW
Here is a quick & dirty of the idea I'm working on...... Ignore the wing bracket, its coming off. I want it to follow the back edge and taper out nice & clean. JMO but I don't like the ones with weird end pieces/extensions. bdn3d nice to see you taking this on!!

I agree, you will not get quality at that price.

I'm in for one depending on final design. I like the one on the black m coupe. I agree with inTgr8r that it's a shadow and slight angle that makes it look off.
I'm out if it's a replica of the arkym piece. |
