I can still do that by running something between my roll bars. Check out my "scorpion gopro" thread, I'm building something way off

I'd like to get my intercooler painted black, in a paint that doesn't mess up its cooling properties. I was quoted about $100 and 1-2 weeks.

You guys think I can take the intercooler off, and flip the air filter to the open hole side and take it easy on the RPMs during that time?

1. I asked to ESS to anodized black the IC and they adviced not to do it. Despite all claims about this paint process, ESS don't garantee that it will maintain the same cooling ability. For clients that want to keep it as subtle as possible, they prefer to do a light black smoke in the IC core, paint black the flat parts and reuse the OE grill. I followed this advice except the light smoke in the core because i realized that in most of the newer cars (specially diesel versions) the OE equipment also has the core unpainted.

2. If you don't go into boost i don't see any cons in bypass the IC during that period.

roffle, dont do it imo..... your car looks mean as fuck!!!
I do think a black cooler would look sick however, maybe even better?? i REALLY like the chrome cooler hiding behind the stock grills, imo this combo is subtle enough and still looks awesome, your really have to look to see this :-)

btw if you do go ahead youve got no issue bypassing the i/c, ess test these tunes/cars to destruction, they run ALL cars for a certain time without intercoolers to see what happens in extreme circumstances!! Keep put of boost and the car wont even know whats happening..... especially in the cold weather at the moment!

its not anodizing, its some special paint they guarantee doesn't mess with the cooling properties. I'm not sure what I want to do... I might just buy a new grille. Beedub, please post a pic of your setup

Any type of paint, no matter how thin will be, it will always put a layer above the core. Paint makers will never tell want you don't want to hear. Why the newer cars has the radiators and IC's core unpainted? Costs saving or higher efficiency?

I just finished reading a bunch of articles, and as long as you're not painting the fins, you're not messing with the cooling properties. I'm not going to argue what manufacturers do or don't do. Even Greddy says its fine

I'll be using Eastwood's special radiator paint, which is very thin and is made especially for this. item# 10340 just ordered

I did a quick photoshop and it looks like it'll be a huge improvement

ok here we go....

this is imo the best solution and happens to be the stock Ess configuration, with a correct install the intercooler lines up perfectly with the sotck grills and looks perfect imo.... just enought to see...... not enough to shout its intent ;-)

And rof..... one more for you, cant remember if i showed you this, the stock ess breather hose looked shit and on my car was rubbing through on the vacumm tube.. so i went for some proper internal braid kevlar hose, the outer hose is a lovely black fabric weave thats not only soft to touch, looks great but with the internal properties this hose is incredibly strong..... great upgrade and much more flexible as well...... im constantly tweaking and changing Ess supplied parts!! lol... i just cant help F'in with something!!

But mostly, being on top of the engine i really wanted a top quality piece that looks as well as it performs....

looking at my pics i think the stock grill with the intercooler hiding subtly behind is the best look!!

It looks good, but I'm going for a meaner look. I'm going to see how it looks sprayed black first, and then decide if I want to hide it completely by adding a grille on top of that.

I saw that hose you've posted, but the stock one's aethetics don't bother me yet. I JUST noticed you've polished the fuck out of the front of the engine though, thats impressive

yup, its like that front to back ;-)

i guess since i owned it from new ive spent years doing it so it now looks pretty impressive, car currently has 10,200 miles, all done in the dry and summertime, i usually only gets wet when i get caught out and about.... since its my weekend toy its really easy to keep liek this... but yeah ive spent night after night in the garage polishing, i even polished all the A/C lines, pretty much everything.... the pics dont do it justice....

since my little boy its all calmed down and i very rarely get "garage time" so im glad i had the chance as now its easy to keep shiny!! lol i now spend garage time with my little boy who demands all of my attention, all i need is a decent woman now to do my ironing...... and cook me some chicken..... lol....

On to the cooler i think on your open grill front black will look mean, but i kinda like your current, in your face look, do you find it alittle to much "show"??? i Dont really see how paint or a thin layer will change its cooling properties, lots of coolers are available pre painted..... before i put mine on i hand polished it for 2 days and cleaned up some of the welds......
i am a perfectionist when it comes to my cars.....

hows life "supercharged"?? i guess i should ask?....... viper or ess vt2 z4m.....honest answer please....

R.E the hose.... yeah i guess its alittle form over function, but it does serve a purpose and looks great..... im missing the car already, its firmly away for winter now....

I like that its flashy right now, but to me it looks a bit like a hack job. I think all black will clean that up

Honestly, in an ideal world I'd have a Viper engine in this car (or vette motor), or the z4 interior and brakes in a viper. I need more torque, but more boost in the long term future will fix that craving

i love the idea of the HPF kit.... id love to drive one and feel the difference, with the big turbo they use it must feel ballistic, i do feel the low Tq hig rev is very suited to our cars, also i think our cars are ALOT faster than you'd think ;-) ive raced GT3s, V8 m3, V10 m5 and i could pull on every single one of them on a rolling run.....

This christmas id like a go pro HD and alittle time to make some prope clips of my driving......

I have a coupe--any details on how you rigged this? Suction cup on the back window with the camera upside down? What I really want, and probably can never have, is a view that can include the gauges as well as a view of the road...probably the only option is a helmet mount.

Incredibly badass run! Great sound; love the aggressive S54 captured in essence. Is this a standard GoPro HERO or something else?

It's actually my Droid X2 Phone...gotta love it, right?!

I'm using a standard GPS mount:

With the mount, you're able to actually bend the suction cup to where you can mount it on the rear window and still be able to have the camera viewing forward, right-side up.

I really wanted to invest into a Contour Helmet, but you're still going to be viewing the track, not the gauges.

There is an app for the Android Phones called Torque, what is does is it connects to your OBDII sensor and relays information. What I'm getting to it, is that there is an overlay option where you can relay RPM, Speed, G's...etc to overlay onto your video. A great option if you want to view the gauges.
