Vanne's Coupe Build Thread.. updated 26/10/19
################################################## #############################
Click Here for the latest. ################################################## ############################# Hi guys, just dropped my car off at the paintshop and have started a massive cleanup of the car.. Also, going to have the roof, bottom middle bit of front bumper, bottom middle bit of rear bumper Painted gloss black.... oh and mirrors too... Now I need some confirmation if I was correct in choosing gloss black, (very sure for the roof), but maybe should have choosen matt for the mirrors and bumper bits.. What do you guys think.. Apr splitter on its way, which I believe is gloss black stock.. Wheels are gun metal matt.. I went with gloss for the roof as not sure it would look ok in matt...?? I would love some opinions, maybe a photoshop picture or just some general help.. Oh forgot to mention, bonnet, bumpers and doors are getting a complete repaint and bake, in imola and then the black will also be baked.. Also having the tech paint the kidney surrounds gloss black.. maybe that would look better matt or even leave it the same colour as my gun metal grey rims (as it is now) One draw back from the black roof I already know is with the heat, the roof lining suffers.. But thats for another thread. So guys, those parts?, gloss, matt or combination? The car will take a day or 2 to be prepped, so I dont have a lot of time to change my mind.. Thanks for all the help guys.. Lots of desisions ... V. Lol.. just going to do the whole car, my car guy just called me back with an offer I couldn't refuse… Massive discount and mostly due to the fact the shop will get a 8 inch by 8 inch sticker under the bonnet for the show the car is going in on the 13th of next month, at Bimmerfest UAE. Hopefully the car will be ready by then… What do u guys think..

Thanks Dub, that makes me feel a little more at ease.. :-)
Forgot to mention, last week I did the spray pop up nozzle cover delete, so going to be a much, much cleaner look.. I also got them to pull off the front license plate holder and spray both separately, so iII have a few option on the license plate.. They have for luxury cars here a smaller sticker of the plate, but the guy at the RTA, thought there is no way they will give me one of those as they are reserved for lambos and Ferrari.. I had to go there anyways to request approval to change the roof colour.. Which they approved... Yay A well.. Will see how it turns out... |

Vanne, if you are looking for some inspiration pics, my roof, mirrors bottom portion of front bumper and bottom portion of rear bumper happen to be matt black already. So at least you could see how that will turn out.
I am happy i went with matt over a gloss black. That being said if you have an opportunity to go with a complete respray, I would still stick with some for of red as a base colour, otherwise there will still be reminders of the red all over the frame and underbody. Might I suggest keeping imola red but doing it as a "frozen" finish ? If I had bottomless pockets that's what I would do with mine anyway.

I say go gloss all the way. Dont even think matt or satin. Stick with one color for all parts.
Looks so much better than "wrapped" matt.... The roof has to be gloss. It flows so much better with the windows.

JMO but I found that when I had the CF mirrors from Tekarbon, it narrowed the look of the car.
I went back to the OE body colour

Thanks guys, Stiggy, thanks for the pics mate, looks uber mate.
I got the idea for the nozzle delete from Ron and Ian. funnily enough when I took the little covers off, both were actually a slightly different colour, so maybe one got lost along the way... Splitter came in today, thank Lev Yeah hope it doesn't look too narrow, easy enough to go back to the new Imola paint if required. Ron, cant say enough how daunting this is actually, the permanent colour change wasn't really something I wanted to do, and was only at the paint shop to do the bonnet and front bumper... Fangs needed some tlc , but sure glad I decided to go for the full job, should hopefully look magic... I've got a Bombay turn around next and after that I'll take the splitter to the shop and see what's what. The paint shop Man want payment in form of some cartons of Malborro Reds, so will bring him some. He threw my caution about smoking into the wind. The Splitter from Lev is in near new nick, so looking forward to that being on the car, I hope mounting isn't gonna be a drama. I'll probably do it at the paint shop. I did this morning. I was following a logging truck and it hit an overhead tree branch full of morning dew. My whole car got sprayed w/a combination of dew and tree sap.

Couple of pictures from the shop… yeah yeah, hairy legs…
and APR splitter Was going to install the splitter, without the mounting struts at the front, but as my splitter already has the holes in it for them, I kinda have to use them... So was thinking about painting the struts the same black as the rest of the black... Any ideas? Ive also removed the spray nozzles from the bumper since those shots.. thats gotta save a kilo or so Thinking possibly of painting the brake calipers, while the car is in the shop anyways and they have a nice baking oven... But what colour would suit? Just doing a think tank, while the car is there anyways..

You've got a great idea going, like everyone's said.
As for the calipers...here's my 2 cents. Red might be too much red, yellow would make it look like a McDonald's car. Now, is the entire car going gloss black? If it's going all black then red would set it off. Maybe put a time attack red ring around the lip of the wheels if you want to go all out...haha But I may have misunderstood...looks like you're sanding the whole car but only said you're painting the roof and parts of the bumper?

Not my first choice for a shade of matte red...... and that gray looks iffy too....
I kid of course! This does remind me that I need my front bumper fixed where the license plate holes were screwed into the bumper itself.

Nope 007, nah just those parts going black, rest is staying original imola. (I love imola ) Yeah I thougt if imola on the brakes too, would be too much.. yellow as you said, ronald car.. Black might work... gloss that is.. anyone got any other ideas? |

I agree with the previous posts as well. Gloss black sounds good because it kind of carries the same black and red theme through out the car. If not gloss black...what about grey? Just throwing it out there. Also maybe do a search and look at the Imola thread and see if you can get any ideas from other owners' pictures.
