correct transmission fluid on the m?
Has no one done transmission fluid change on the m? I can't find any info!
http://www.zpost.com/forums/search.p...rchid=11486592 I want to see which transmission and lsd fluids people use on the M. I heard that on the new bmw's, they put in ATF for manual transmission?

I changed mine to Royal Purple Synchromax High Performance Manual Tranny Fluid and I'm enjoying easier shifting. Supposed to keep it cooler and less friction also. Some people claim it's too thin but as I change mine very 20,000 Im not to worried about it. I know I've seen quite a few "M" guys running it for the tranny. I"m staying with the stock fluid for the diff when I change it. Here's a good "DIY" about 3/4 way down page... A great link with some good Mods... Thanks Bill
http://billswebspace.com/bmwmc.htm Just be careful of stripping the fill nut. Id use a stubby hex from snap on if you can find one or you could have this happen and have to buy some Vise Grips...LOL http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=356204

Are you using something other than Castrol TWS Motorsport SAE 10W-60 Synthetic Engine Oil? http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...ngineOils.aspx

When my warranty expires in September 2011 I may consider putting a 50/50 mixture of Red Line MTL and MT90 in my Z4M transmission and Red Line 80W-140 gear oil in the differential. Until then I'll stick with the BMW recommended fluids.

I've been running the Royal Purple Synchromax in the tranny for close to 6k now. It does feel thinner. I'm considering changing it over to Redline MTL. Maybe mixing with MT-90, not sure yet. Running Redline 75w140 in the diff for 6k also and it's been perfect.

BG syncorshift 2, I've used it in many tranmissions with excellent results. Shifts much better than OEM, I'll post analysis from Blackstone soon.

The Transmission was not designed for this car's drive train or power... It sucks period. I purchased an extended warranty because I fully expect it to fail at one point.

You know the ZF transmission is stronger than the transmission in the M3 right?

The Getrag 420G transmission in the e46 M3 and others was designed to handle the torque load placed on it by the S54 and similar motors. The ZF Type H in our cars apparently was not. Fact is it was added to Z4M cars because the Getrag would not fit. I have never seen the torque spec on BMW part # GS6-37BZ (ZF Type H), however, many have speculated its not up to the job or Getrag e46 M3 unit.

i will check the torque spec but my friend who is a BMW fanatic said the ZF is capable of handling about 1000 horsepower just like the Getrag does on the HPF M3's. If youve ever driven both they pretty much feel the same. Notchy in first and second gear and a slight whine due to the design of the gears
