Replacing vs. Re-wrapping Steering Wheel?
Hey all, my '06 Z4M steering wheel has 88,000 miles on it, and it's a bit worse for the wear. I'm curious if anyone has advice on whether or not I should get the leather re-wrapped, or just buy a new wheel altogether? I have the wheel with the silver plastic, and I think the black plastic with the M logo looks much better, so I was leaning towards a new wheel anyway. However, the cheapest I can find is about $750 for a complete wheel, without airbag.
I heard there was someone on here who was wrapping steering wheels, but I can't find any info on it. Any suggestions on which course to take? Thanks! |

I have a spare Z4M wheel with half the mileage on it. PM me if interested.

If it was me, I'd rewrap the wheel and refinish the trim to something you like (sand and black trim paint, or vinyl wrap maybe)? If the current wheel is worn there's not as much value in it to sell, and it's not much use to have as a spare. I've heard good things about Coby or Ledermanz.

So I ended up going with Royal Steering Wheels, at http://royalsteeringwheels.com/bmw-z-series/
Brand new custom leather wheel, they're sending me a new wheel and I'll send them my old one when I get it installed. And incredibly, it was only $216!! For a whole new wheel! They're based in England and come highly recommended, I'll update this thread with pics when it arrives and I get it installed. I'm super stoked! For now, here's the one I ordered: |

Got the new wheel! Going to get it installed this week or next, but I love it so far. Leather feels great! They do really good work, I'm very impressed. And it was super reasonably priced. Jack was really easy to work with, I'll definitely give them my business again in the future.

Final update: Got it installed! Love it, and recommend anyone looking to replace their wheel to check out Royal Steering Wheels. Might have to start wearing driving gloves all the time now...

It might look grey in the pictures, but it's actually black. And there's no part number needed, just write to Jack at Royal Steering Wheel and let him know what you'd like, or copy and paste a picture of the one you want from their gallery. It's pretty informal, but he does take a few days to reply usually.
Just be aware that returning the wheel might be a pretty penny. I was quoted $40 to ship it back, but last night the Postal Annex quoted me around $200. I brought it up to Jack this morning and he said to use either the USPS or Postal Monkey, who I'd never heard of, but apparently it's much much cheaper. I'll update this when I get it figured out. |

Final update: Returned the wheel, total cost from California back to the UK was $49. So keep that price in mind if you're considering buying a wheel: the shipping alone is a quarter the cost of the wheel. Other than that, super stoked with how it turned out! All in all, very worth it, and still HUGE savings over a $900+ new wheel.

Do you have a contact email for Royal Steering Wheels? I reached out to them a week or two ago through their website and never heard anything back...
Thanks! -Rob

or you can try one of these DIY and save https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mewa...StoreLevelAB=5
high quality leather custom tailored, currently doing it on my non M E85 just nappa black getting ready for stitching it goes on top of existing leather so my non M will be a bit thicker, where M steering wheel already thick it will get even thicker proly, or just remove the oem leather and use non M leather wrap i'd double check that with manufacturer and finished product around 5 hrs of labour this is the second one i did Last edited by M54E85; 12-29-2017 at 09:36 PM.. |

Yep! I think they were just out of the office for a while for the holidays. Ordered an alcantara wrap with the original M-Stitch, should have it around the end of the month
