Yes, and this is a completely unbiased opinion

One of the best and thorough build threads I've seen. I'd love to see how a car setup like this feels like!

Sparco Ring / NRG Short Hub / NRG Quick Release

Have always loved the BMW Motorsport D-Ring wheel. This and the Momo mod 88 are the closest I have found. Really enjoy the look and feel of this wheel

Pros:
  • Easier to get in and out with steering wheel removed
  • Better feel in hand IMO
  • Enhanced steering response with slightly smaller wheel

Cons:
  • Loss of steering wheel buttons/controls other than the horn
  • Dealing with airbag/airbag light
  • Modifications to wire horn and make short hub fit are tough to reverse

Another helpful section , nicely done on the steering wheel & assembly.

Do you have a better pic of the first pic with the horn wiring to the control stalk/column?

Thank you!

Here are a couple. Let me know if this is what you are looking for. I didn't take an pictures from before trimming off the female plug housing and isolating the unused pins. That step was necessary to make the short hub fit; not sure if it is needed for longer hub adapters.

That was helpful. Nice finish considering what you were dealing with.

I had to trim as well to fit my Ring (no QR) and tried to reuse the connector pin. Given that the trim had to be cut, the connector is not holding well. I will also have to solder them on as you did.

Thanks Chris.

Phase 1: Appradio + Layout For Future Removable Amp Rack

Since this build is dual purpose, the goal is to build a lightweight stereo system with removable amp rack.
The monitor will stay in the car on track days to support track related apps. The amp rack, cross overs and sub (if I add one) will all be set up with quick disconnects for easy removal.
This phase shows the layout for the current testing configuration.

Pros:
  • System sounds much better than OE with just the 3-way components, amp and monitor installed
  • Will save weight over OE fully installed
  • Will save even more weight on track days with amp rack/sub reomoved
  • Nice having good tunes on long road trips

Cons:
  • A long way away from complete
  • Time suck as it relates to what I consider more important mods

CAE / Hardmotorsport Shift Kit Anodized Black

Looking to further improve shifting accuracy & bring the shift knob up closer tot he steering wheel, I turned to CAE / Hardmotorsport.

Pros:
  • The ability to set throw limits is awesome
  • Hands down, the most crisp/positive engagement I have experienced
  • Top notch build quality
  • Puts the shift knob right next to 3 o'clock on the steering wheel

Cons:
  • Requires modification of the center console (big space commitment)
  • May be too tall for some

Love that shifter Chris!
Must be a dream on track!
Would love to feel what that's like

Is it still possible to work the center consol back on ? (Even if modified)

Very nice audio install!

I just completed a similar install with an JL XDv2, and added an 8" microsub+. Works great with just solid 3-way upfront.

In hindsight, since the sub is removable I would go 10"

Thanks Ian!

Yes, it is a dream! Unbelievably crisp and consistent
No real track time yet, but Many sessions at the local proving grounds (2.2 mile run through the desert mountains to the lake)
many rollers, elevation changes and switchbacks. Especialy great for testing suspension and tire clearance.

Yes, modified OE console can still be used. I will still be using most of the OE console, trimming to accommodate the shifter and screen (work in progress).

Thanks, that's great!

Is the shaft adjustable for height and right to left orientation?
.....soooo tempting!

I am really impressed with sound from the 3-ways running bridged (C5-653's w/ XD700/5 V2) I have a new 10TW1 I am planning to use for the removable inclosure

Anytime!

No height adjustment for the shift lever & no left to right adjustment for the carrier. Only adjustments for limiting pins to dialing in throw range.
