BMW Z4 Electric Windows Problem
Hi!
I’m new to the forum but would really appreciate some help. I have recently bought a 57 plate Z4 with 45k miles on the clock. It drives like a dream and I love it! Yesterday my girlfriend was driving home when she noticed some smoke coming out the passenger side dashboard vents. She pulled over and the smoke went within a few seconds but smelt like burning/electrical smell. She then drove 25miles home with no more signs of smoke and no warning lights. She wasn’t using the windows etc at the time the smoke started. I went to the garage today and they plugged the car into the diagnostics machine which came up with no errors. They also looked under the bonnet and said its mint with no signs of leaks. I went back into the car to drive home and put the windows down as it was hot but both the drivers and passengers side didn’t work. I then put the roof down which usually causes the window to lower but this wasn’t the case and they remained in the same position. Anyone have a similar problem or any ideas what could be wrong and is it an easy fix? Also I took out a 3 year warranty, is this type of thing usually covered? Thanks for the help in advance. |

possible window issues; window motor or window regulator, start by checking the fuse.
As for the smoke, does your Z4 have the N52 engine? There's recalls for this. I had it taken care of under recall on my 328i (N52). Basically, a small piece of plastic inside the dashboard gets burned and can cause a short, worst case scenario, a fire. It smokes through the vents and the smell is too strong, can't miss it.

The N52 is a 3.0L, so you definitely don't have the N52. What year is your Z4? the 2.0L is a 4 Cyl only made in Europe, the N46

The burning smell did smell of an electrical fault. Maybe it was something to do with the window problem? |

Perhaps, I just can't imagine why smoke came out of the vents. I'd have someone check it out
