NAV Upgrade for Map

Does anyone have a recommendation for where I can get a map upgrade disc for my 07 NAV System?

Craigslist or eBay. Unless you want to give in to highway robbery and buy from the dealer

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll check those sites. I was just wondering if there were any OE sites other than stealers, um, I mean dealers, where I could get a legitimate copy without risk of highway robbery.

Navteq is the supplier of the map disks for our Z4s. The price is the same as that of the dealer, but it is an alternative source.
You can purchase the map updates here http://www.navteq.com/store

Make of this what you will, but burned DVDs will work just a well.

+10000. I didn't recommend that bcoz I saw words like "legit" and "dealer" but THAT is THE way to stick it to the man and I wouldn't do it any other way.

I appreciate the suggestions. I wanted to go 'legit' because I'm also a photographer and it irritates the be-jeebies out of me to know people just copy my work instead of paying a nominal fee to have copyright reproduction rights. I have a ton of camera gear and I have my site maintenance costs so I try to offset those costs by charging a small fee for photos at motorcycle and events and an occasional stint for a special event but to get just a few bucks out of a person is nearly impossible. I don't believe in ripping off a company like BMW or Navteq simply because they're large companies - if it weren't for paying customers, we wouldn't have the ability to use their goods and services so I guess I'll either have to pay the big bucks or go without for now. I appreciate the suggestions tho!

Speaking of legitimacy, does anyone know anything about this company? They have the NAV disk I'm looking for but it's only 1/4 of the price of the OE disk available through Navteq. I sent them a note asking about the product. I'll post when I receive a reply.

Interesting. . . If they are kosher I'll scoop up the 2009.1 disk.

I highly doubt that's legit, that's probably worse then just copying or whatever, they are actually making a profit. Not only on the map, but on work other people did to mod the firmware.

If you want the real deal it'll be $200 from here http://www.navteq.com/ but the map is over a year old.

I bet they're just selling copies. You can get that on CL for even cheaper but based on what you said I don't think it's a good idea. Getting a genuine used copy on ebay is ur best bet.

I agree with the sentiment of others and would stay away from bmwnav.net as it just doesn't feel right.

You can save a little money on the latest map DVD if you order it from a dealer like Tischer BMW (http://getbmwparts.com). They have it at $169.15 instead of the retail $199. The part number for the 2009.1 NA maps for the Z4 is 65 90 2 147 669.

Are you sure about the part #? What's the difference between that and this one? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2009-...fAudioQ5fVideo

Yes, the part # is correct, I grabbed it straight off of the DVD. The disk you show is for the previous generation iDrive based NAV (CCC). The two NAV systems are not compatible with each other and each requires it's own maps disk. I happen to have both disks at home, one for the Z4 and one for our 2009 5er wagon.

It looks like Navteq no longer provides the map updates for our cars. Tele Altas is now the sole provider of maps for BMW, but they don't ship to the US. You can order the latest maps from BMW at http://store.bmwgpsmaps.com/. Unfortunately they are still $200, but you can save a few bucks if you order from Tischer.

Oh, the 2010.1 maps are now a two DVD set, one for the East US, and one for the West. Canada is covered on both disks. The BMW part number for the maps is 65 90 2 158 157.

If I remember right the MKIV drive only reads single layer DVDs where the iDrive unit can read dual layer DVDs with with twice the content (aka. many more POIs, and both East and West).

I think the latest firmware for the MKIV enabled dual layer reading, but most people wont get the update so yea, they have to be single layer

Hmm I figured it was a hardware limitation. I believe I upgraded my firmware a while back to V32.

What exactly did that do for you? Look newer or pretty much the same maybe just functioning a little quicker?
