Who would have guessed that enthusiasts reviewing a performance car would say the OEM setup for the suspension is too firm and the exhaust is too loud.

I would never be able to daily drive it because of my job so I think I would be ok with both.

Clarkson said the same about the Z4 suspension.
He figured it had been purposely made harsh for the US market, claiming "American's think that's sporty".

There's firm and then there's clunky. My Z4 (with sport suspension) is tightly sprung to be sure, but it's far more comfortable than my STi and it handles harsh stuff with relative grace. May's comments on the Jag were that it did no such thing. (Clarkson is an idiot - okay he's entertaining but I don't find his taste in cars to match mine very often.)

My '08 is pretty fresh with only 32K on it. I bought it in December with just 23K miles. I think the suspension is tuned perfect. It is far from harsh and quite compliant. It does have limited travel however, but that is the nature of a sports car. The chassis is very stiff, which allows for a taunt suspension but one with compliance.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Drove in one as a passenger at a Jaguar Experience event. Was ridiculously fast; pulled hard and pressed me into the back seat the whole time. The hired gun who they had driving it almost spun it on the first run fooling around a bit. Insane noise too.

Price point is a way different league than a used Z4 ///M now though. Wonder what depreciation will do to these cars. Definitely the F-Type as a roadster better looking than a 911 vert, faster than a Boxster 718, etc. Haven't driven the AMG equivalent so no other basis for comparison.

Weight kills, and I imagine the Z is closer to 50/50 balance too.

Yeah, but still a great topic

After 3 years now, and 65,000 miles of ownership, I still love my Coupe as much as the first drive I took in it in 2015. I'm of the opinion it was one of the best cars BMW ever produced.
