Scary fuel consumption?

Not a very original thread, I agree. Also, some may say if this is what I care about I bought the wrong car. I'm cheap, what can I say?

So over a day of about 65 km/40 mi, about 25% highway and 75% heavy in-town driving, I averaged 15.8 L/100 km or not even 15 mpg!

Is this normal? The car drives and sounds fine as far as I can tell.

EPA is 14/22. That seem normal for mostly town driving.

Agreed - seems normal.

FWIW, I got 14mpg AVERAGE on a brand new Corolla, which had an EPA rating of 29/37 running up a few mountain passes on our Colorado road trip a couple of years ago

Check your right foot if you are concerned - city driving MPG is abysmal.

Those six throttle bodies can be quite thirsty in the city! Over 20mpg is easily attainable on the hiway- its no Prius thats for sure.

Its normal and its not normal.
I can drive a specific journey and average 7L/100KM and I can drive the same journey and average 15L/100km

All depends on the gears, revranges and throttle position you use.

If you wonder if your car is technically OK and cant figure out that yourself, go to a competent mechanic that has experience with these cars.

Is that directed to me or the TS?

TS has a z4m according to his profile

I get the same MPG's peeps are mentioning here; between 14-17 if I'm lucky. However, I've noticed that I have to fill up more often. My daily routine is pretty much the same; leave the house, go to work, head to the gym, come back home. I've noticed that my gas tank reaches empty at a quicker pace and that's because I've been driving like a grandma.
