thoughts on z4 plastic front bumper

what's your opinion on the fact that our double kidney grills are on our plastic bumper and essentially not a part of the z4 body or the hood?

is this for weight distribution of the car?

this seem to be more of a z8 design cue than a z3 right?

I think what he means, is that on the previous generation 3 series, the kidney grills were a part of the hood, whereas on the current generation, the kidney grills became part of the bumper.

He's asking which you prefer.

The extra weight of the grill would not be well supported by the alumnium hood. It would take a stronger hood and would add weight to the car. Weight is the enemy of horse power. Real performance automotive manufactures would rather dump 5 lbs than add 5 hp.

Oh, I guess I never noticed the old ones had them on the hood. I just recently started paying close attention to BMW. I loove the look of the front as it is, I would not change it

it is interesting to note that the kidney grill that started from the 303 model was a necessary component of the car, nowadays, its treated more like an accessory.

If a z4 were to be found abandonded in a junk yard 50 years from now... chances are it would not have the double kidney grill.

I guess it is good to have less weight in front. The long, thicker bonnet must be heavy by itself and with the double kidney grill not made out of aluminium must have helped the front-back weight distribution. If not having a 'permanent' double kidney nose would improve handle around the corners, I can live with that. Plus it would be easier to replace in the event of a collision.
