Help buying a used 2007 3.0si coupe.
I've been looking to buy a Z4 3.0si coupe for a month or so now. I've loved the Z series since my brother had a Z3 2.8 many moons ago, and I've decided to take the plunge while I can still justify a 2 seat sports car.
I've finally found one I want - 2007 3.0si 6MT, premium, sport, M seats and about 12K miles - offered at $35K. It doesn't mention CPO in the add, which I assume means it isn't. The CarFax is clean - but that's about as useful as a one-armed paper hanger. I plan on trading in my '04 Mazda RX8, which has 52K miles and every option including nav. Trade in value is ~ $12.5K according to kbb, which I know is not the most accurate. My friend at BMW said they would give me $10K (holy jeebus that's some awful depreciation). Anyway, I was planning on offering 32K out the door provided they pay ~11.5K for my RX8 and include a CPO cert on the BMW. If anyone actually made it this far into my post, I could use some opinions as to whether or not this is a decent offer, and if there are any other issues I should look into. Hope to be ing soon. Thanks. |

Well you can do better.
I just bought brand new 2007 Z4 3.0si coupe in early March 08 with premium package and sport package and M seats and heated seats and paid $34,020. Sticker was 46.2K. So I think you should scour the auto trader sites and get an 07 with at least a 12K discount. I know they are available. As for trade in, I know it blows, but it is hard to get a worse deal anywhere than trading your car in. I just sold a 911 vert for around 33K, which was the cheapest deal around and the dealer offered me 23K for the trade. Take a little time, get 100% financing if needed and sell the car yourself. I am sure there are RX8 boards where you can post and sell and do way better than a trade in. My 2 cents 4 what it is worth. Good luck and nice upgrade.
Just checked and Autotrader has 33 listings for new Z4 coupes 2007 NEW. Find your car and see who will give you the best deal.

Diggity,
1st everybody here is going to get a much better deal than you will ever get, just ask. 2nd you are trying to buy a car, not give sex to the sales person. 3rd it's your money, if they want to sell retail for retail, or wholesale for wholesale fine. If not walk away and forget it. No new, used in this case, car is worth being a piviot man! |

I have only had 1 dealer offer me $32K for my '07 si coupe (see upgrades below) with 12K miles on it (weird I know). All other dealers offered me 28K.
I am thinking you could get it for 30K at the very most. YIKES on the trade in! I traded in my '02 Honda Civic with 87K miles and got $8,750 from it...then again it was a Civic

Thanks for the tips everybody.
It seems the spring has given me new car fever and brought out my impetuous side. I guess the best route would be to try to sell my car privately and work a couple dealers against each other for the best price on a new '07. I'll shoot for 12K off and see what happens. |

for what it's worth I offered $34k on a new '07 si at the end of march, msrp I think $49K. It was on autotrader for $38.9k and on dealership website for $39.9k. Sales lady flatly refused, I asked her for a counter offer and she countered at $39.4K--MORE than on autotrader. I pasted in the autotrader ad and never heard from her again. I guess I must have insulted her somehow with my offer. The car is still sitting on autotrader and on their website....I actually have no idea why it isn't moving, they have CPOs for more than that, but they aren't moving either :>

Wait a few more months -- inevitably they realize that their tactic isn't working, just like it didn't work last year. |
