Electric Soft top Died :(

Hey guys, tried to search but couldn't find much.....!

My Locking mechanism seems to be working since it locks the top in place however my motor died.. The top is in the full up locked position and when the button is pressed it unlocks and it just stays there dead....!

BMW Rep said 1400.00 for a new motor.....Is this something that can be done on the outside by an independent garage shop?

Thx for your help.

The entire top needs to be removed to replace the motor. Most likely the motor took on water due to a clogged drain and failed.
If you find an Indy shop willing to do it, give it a try, but most likely you will have to get it done at the dealer

They did, but they underestimated her. The drain holes are small and clog easily - the problem is common on cars kept outside and uncovered, as leaves, twigs, and pine needles clog the drains. Cars kept garaged avoid the problem usually.

My soft-top motor was replaced 3 months ago. The dealer did not need to remove the entire soft-top.

I would like to see how they did that. The whole hydraulic unit is in the left rear, at the very bottom of the top
