John's has awesome pizza. Whenever I have friends/family visit, aside from treating them to one of the classic NYC pizza spots, everyone is always blown away by Artichoke pizza too. It's ridiculously good - especially when you've had some drinks.
Westlight looks great. Is it kid friendly? I noticed when looking at reservations they say nobody under the age of 21 allowed after 6pm (which wouldn't be a problem, we're probably constrained to an early dinner with the kids anyway).

Brooklyn has the best food in NYC, imo... but like you said, they're all located at in and out spots.

In all fairness, that is everywhere lately. I'd rather walk down 86th Street, or 18th Avenue for one of the good Italian restaurants than walk in NYC. Brooklyn has a lot to offer, but is a trek from the Bronx, where Manhattan is quick ride.

Honestly, I don't remember but I can't imagine an early dinner being a problem. William Vale costs a ton of money to operate and while they're busy; they're probably not busy enough given the current economy.

That being said, I completely forgot to mention: Above all the places you listed to eat at, YOU HAVE TO EAT AT PETER LUGERS AT LEAST ONCE IN YOUR LIFE.

100% with you.

I don't think going to Brooklyn is worth it for OP. Unless it's for Peter Lugers.

Well when I said south brooklyn i was suggesting coney island and the aquairum or possibly Totonno's but i forgot they closed down..they used to be one of my fave pizza places though. And yeah L & B is technically gravesend/bensonhurst edge because 86th street is right there, John's deli is also around the corner for a solid sandwich.

Was always a zoo. Now it's a zoo with clown make-up.

I was careful with my recommendations to consider that he'll be there with his kids.

That place was funny. When they ran out of dough, they closed for the day. It didn't matter how many people were waiting on line.

And still, Coney Island isn't in South Brooklyn.

lmao i don't disagree with what they consider it; i'm just speaking geographically and on a map. Coney Island is the most southern point of Brooklyn so I've always just called it south brooklyn(even though people call south brooklyn the cobble hill, park slope area). I'm just going by geographics on the map

When I lived back east I'd take visiting family on a whirlwind tour starting on Staten Island through 86th then down through the park and to Times Square. We called it my Manhattan Death March but later renamed it for obvious reasons.

Starting on Staten Island

Best way to see Statue of Liberty: Free ride on Staten Island ferry. Wide open harbor views and operates day and night.

After an early morning ferry ride landing at Battery Park, walk to:
Ground zero
Wall Street
Brooklyn bridge , then subway to

Grand central station
NY public library (just south of grand station)

Then subway to:
Manhattan museum modern art, walking south through
Central Park
Rockefeller center
St Pats cathedral
Times Square For dinner

Train back to battery park for nighttime ride back to Staten Island

That's impressive!

Personally I'd love to do that... but the 4 year old and 4 month old would never survive that I think I'm more or less limited to 1 or 2 attractions a day... some food... and lots of downtime.

Heading out from work but wanted to throw my $.02, now keep in mind I dont have kids so some of this may not be appealing.

The Highline gets alot of rave reviews. I have never been personally but I know its a trendy area to walk around somewhat close to the Hudson and see art work and foliage and lots of architecture.
https://www.thehighline.org/
The other spot you mentioned, the Hudson Yards is really cool looking and a hot spot.
We used to love walking around The Meatpacking district. Lots of cool history and restaurants there but may not be appealing with the kids in tow.

Def Central Park.
Ground Zero and the Museum are amazing. As sad and devastating as it was, they did an amazing job with it
Wonder if you'll be there during the Feast of San Gennaro in Little Italy.
https://sangennaronyc.org/
Walking the Village is a blast but really not a children friendly area. Lots of bars, restaurants, sex shops, HOWEVER Murrays Cheese shop on Bleeker is fabulous IMO.

I am quickly realizing all the places I want to send you would be great for a couple and probably not exciting with little ones.
