Angel Eyes
Going to start this new thread since the other thread about custom angel eyes is huuuuuuge, and folks might miss it.
Back story: I ran into bambi up in the mountain roads early one morning while I took the car out for a drive, and my driver headlight got damaged. Since replacement headlight came in silver, I needed to get work done to it in order to match my passenger side (which was originally done by Tekarbon down in LA). This is now an option and can be done for around $1k (materials and labor) in San Jose, California through John @ XtremeHID. I had them black out the inside shroud, as well as update the halo rings. I figured, since they're going to be opening the headlights up and in there anyway, might as well update the old Tekarbons before they "expire" and start having burned out LEDs or something lol. I personally claimed through insurance, otherwise I probably wouldn't pay that much for the headlight work. Thanks bambi for destroying one of my headlights (and not much else) Last edited by mfanatic325; 09-09-2015 at 10:29 AM.. |

In comparison, Tekarbon was charging only $400 for similar work. Quite a few years has passed, but inflation can only account for so much |

It's hard to tell, are the rings the same size?

I think it's probably just the picture angles...of the angels. Couldn't resist It's actually kind of tough to take pix of angel eyes without annoying reflection and what not. Then again, most people aren't great photographers to begin with lol |

Those look good! Do they have other color options? I personally would like something less blue.
I'm interested to see how they hold up over time. It's too bad Tekarbon seems to have gotten out of the business, because my non-M looks great. I have seen halos pop up from time to time on their site as a Z4 option, with the last time being 1-2 months ago. For the initial work, I paid $450 including return shipping, but not counting shipping to Tekarbon. I did have one side fall down, but Tekarbon fixed it for a reasonable price and did some extra work at the same time. It's good to hear there's another option out there!

Are these ccfl angel eyes or led angel eyes?
(looks like ccfl in the pictures). And you had tekarbon led angel eyes before? Is there a lot of difference in colour or brightness?

When you go pick up the car, it would be great if you can you ask them more about the halo LEDs. What size, brand, wattage, possibly even where they source them?

They're probably not actually that blue. Pretty sure it's just the photo settings and what not. Here's a link to their website and the other angel eyes they've done on other cars: http://xtremehid1.com/gallery/angel-eyes-reftrofit Quote:
I should be picking up my car by the end of the week, so I'll ask and then update here when I get a chance. |

So the shop guy told me that they source their angel eye halo rings from a company called Morimoto. I did a quick Google search for "morimoto plasma LED" and was able to find this: http://www.hidillusionz.com/services...ngel-eyes.html
So it looks like mine are indeed LED, and they output just like CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lighting) style. For what it's worth, I have super old CCFL style angel eyes on my E46 3-series from back in 2006 lol. Last edited by mfanatic325; 09-02-2015 at 11:44 PM.. |

I have Morimoto D2S bulbs and I've been very pleased with the quality, here's hoping the angels are just as good
Just found these on theretrofitsource, $10 a pair. Smells like a great DIY for somebody http://www.theretrofitsource.com/mor...l#.Vee8LIZHanM |

Yeah they seem to be of good quality as far as I can tell. They just finished my car today. Now I just have to wait for clear-bra treatment. Updating original post with pictures that the shop manager sent to me. He knows I've been waiting patiently

The only wiring involved should be to tap into ignition and/or interior light power. Which can be done through the ECU box in the engine bay. I hate running wiring, so I would just let the pros do it

I'd use a fuse tap and cut a hole in the rubber nipple on the firewall. I'm not a fan of cutting into the factory wiring. Either way, it's not a lot of wiring; just power and a fuse to keep things from burning up if there's a problem.

Just updated some nighttime pix (taken in the garage with iPhone6). Represented is a progression from no lights on whatsoever, to parking lights only, to full lights on.

Those are nice looking, how well can they be seen from a distance in broad daylight?
Not to hijack, but I did some experimenting with some LEDs rings and used 2 different sized rings. I was going to offer a service but didn't get much interest. My Halo experiment. |
