New VB3s!

Well I finally got my new rims on the car, all washed up and purdy like. Here's a few pics how they look. There will be plenty more to come.

They are 18x8.5 ET 40 Front /// 18x9.5 ET 22 Rear. *The offsets are based on the only numbers I found on the inside of the rims...*

looks good + nice offset. these are vb3s in hypersilver? would top off the look with a drop if u care for things like that, cos somehow the overall wheels + tires look slightly smaller compared with oem.

Thanks. They're hyper black. But yeah after I put them on a set of springs moved up on my list. The front just doesn't look right. I think it's just the smaller profile.

Front is 225 35 and rear is 275 40.

Great choice on the color!
Interested to see how they look once you do a drop; I'm on the fence between 18s and 19s.

You can easily fit wider tires up front, no? I'd imagine your current setup induces more oversteer?

Love the colour!

I do agree that it looks slightly smaller than oem, could it be the tyres?

Was planning for the exact same comination due to wider range of tyres available for 18" but looks like I might just run with OEM wheels or go up to 19s...

More pics pls!

the front tires at 225/35 are lower profile than stock, hence the wider gap between fender and tire and the illusion that they're smaller. the rears fill the wheel wells just fine. hyper black looks great from the photos indeed!

Wheels look great on your car!
I really like the hyper black in IB. You will be happy you went with 18's too, because you are not limited when it comes to tires selection.

Springs next for sure. The next time you pick up tires, you can fit 245/40/18 with no problem. The 275/40/18's in the rear are a little tall.
You could run 275/35/18 in the rear next time and with the 245/40/18 fronts your tire heights would be the same giving you a more balanced look and feel.

Yeah, that's one of the main reason I jumped on these wheels, the 18". took the guess work out of it for me.

When it's time for new tires, I'll definitely be going a bit bigger up front, but smaller in the rear? Performance wise (for someone new to the game), what would that accomplish? just curious.

And the H&R definitely went to #1 on my list, just above the wheel studs. Since the wheels are already on, I moved the studs down one... The gap on the front was totally noticable when I dropped the car off the jack. My wife didnt' see it, but I did, and obviously I'm not the only one...

I love the way the rubber looks too. The pattern of the treads, i mean

Thanks for the good words all. I'm loving the car all over again (not that I fell out of love!).

I think you should go 245 fronts and 275 (or maybe even 285 if you're not lowered too much suspension-wise) rears just as previously recommended because those are the maximum safe widths our cars can take along with aftermarket wheels. By safe I mean they've been used by fellow Z4M owners on track, and have shown to not rub fenders or suspension so clearances won't be an issue. Wider tires are typically better for overall road-holding force due to a larger contact patch (surface area). But if you're not tracking the car, thinner tires are relatively less expensive, so that might be a deciding factor for you =P

As for 18" tires, the cheapest (yet extremely good) tire I can recommend is the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Sport Star Specs. I love these tires, especially for how cheap they are and the performance they provide.
A step slightly above these are the Nitto NT series, Yokohama AD08's, or the Kumho Ecsta XS's. And then comes the Bridgestone RE-11's. All of these are almost about the same in terms of dry grip, but they go in the above-listed order in terms of pricing from what I can recall. Any of these tires will be the best street tires money can buy, before going up to R compounds for even more serious track use, etc.

I would still be using the Dunlop star specs if only they offered in 19" sizing

My recommendation for size would be:
Front 245/40-18
Rear 275/35-18

For extreme grip and decent tread life I would recommend the Nitto NT05's or the Advan Neova ad08's

For good grip when heated up and long tread life, I would take a look at Hankook evo v12's or, PS2's

Tire are personal preference. For me the NT05's are everything I have been looking for. Extreme grip (almost r-comp status), decent tread life and reasonable pricing. I was going to try the ado8's, but it would have run me another $250. Maybe next time around.

Your tire tread does look bad ass. Good call on the springs, I will give you a heads up I anything pops up

I appreciate the lookout!

I'll most likely get a set of V12's when these expire. I don't track heavily yet and the kdw's I have should suffice for what tracking I will do. I might try to gwt in on the next hpde here in Austin in november....definitely getting that extra 5mm on the front next though hahaha

Are u sure u transferred the TPMS sensors from ur stock wheels over to the new ones? It requires deflating of the old wheel's tires a bit to pull out the valve stem. The TPMS unit is built into the stock wheel's valve stem. After u do the transfer of sensors, refer to the owner's manual on how to reset the TPMS sytem.
But u pretty much just press and hold the TPMS button until the light stays on, and then as u drive off from there, the light will eventually disappear & never appear again unless ur tire pressures aren't up to par.

FYI, FWIW, I bought new TMPS sensors for my RG63s - never had to reset anything. I installed them on the wheels b4 I took them to get the tires mounted. Threw the wheels on and drove off with out so much as a peep from the car about the new sensors. No resetting needed in my case. After about 200 miles, still no issues.

so for me to get this done, I'd have to:

take my old and new wheels to a wheel shop and have them deflate, remove/dismount the tires, transfer the tpms, re-mount, inflate? sheesh...

u pretty much need to have the tpms sensors mounted on ur new wheels for the onboard bc to reset successfully. right now it's coming on cos it doesn't detect any tpms sensors on ur current wheels! try starting up the car with ur old oem wheels and tires next to it, the tpms light should go out on its own detecting the tpms in ur oem tires nearby.

mine's an 06 with the flat tire monitor, so in some retrospect i never have to worry about tpms sensors!
