What's your favorite ground coffee?

I've become a bit bored with my current selection and am looking for something new. I had been a Starbucks Sumatra person for several years, but recently its just not the same for whatever reason.

I'm currently trying a few from Peet's, but so far everything is just, "ok". I like something a bit on the bold side to be used in a french press.

What are some of your favorites?

Love SB Sumatra. If you have a Trader Joe's, their Sumatra is really good. Most of their coffee is actually pretty good (although I don't love their Kenya). They have Honduras, Gutemala, and... Some other damn one whose name I don't remember. They don't seem to "over roast" as much as SB. If you don't have a Trader Joe's nearby, then... sorry.

Edit: You did say ground coffee. These are whole bean, but I think you can grind them there. Spend $150 and get a nice burr grinder and spend a bit more on a good French press. I recommend Espro, it's thermal. Life changing.

Good point for clarification. I was thinking "ground" as brewed coffee vs espresso machine based. I have a cheaper burr grinder I use sometimes, but I used to get whole bean Sumatra and let SB grind it. There's a Trader Joe's not too far from me so I'll check those out. Interestingly, they (TJ's) wanted to build a new store here in GSO but the locals near the proposed site protested.

What's a "good French press"? I'm on my third or fourth Bodum as I tend to crack the glass every few years.

I bought an Espro (a few actually). They use dual filtration and you can make two servings and the filter will block the grounds, so it stops steeping and doesn't get bitter. It's also a double walled thermal carafe. Highly recommend. Before that, I used the Bodums as well. The good filtration in the Espro are definitely worth it.

Funny timing, I just brewed it. Eight O'Clock whole beans (usually Columbian Peaks), a good burr grinder and Technivorm mocha master. I've tried it all and this is what I look forward to coming home to. And of course, my Blackcock mug

Dunkin pretty much every morning. Heavenly Hawaiian Kona (TOF Peaberry Vienna Roasted) once in a while - get whole bean / grind. Tim Hortons when in Canada for business. I avoid Starbucks because I think their coffee sucks.

I agree. One of the best. Peet's generally is pretty solid, regardless of the roast, but Major Dickason is one of my favorites.

I also enjoy Starbucks Reserve coffees. Just amazing.

BTW OP, why did you write the word "ground" in your title? Are you asking what is the best "pre-ground" coffee?

IMO, you should always buy whole bean, immediately seal it (the retail bag still leaks air), and ground only what you need to drink.

Columbian coffee in brands such as: Gevalia, Seattle, Community, 8 o'clock. I prefer it ground in a bag.

So I own a Bodum's French Press and a Bodums Pour Over. IMO, the best flavor comes from the pour over. Same beans, same temperature, similar ground, just different brewing method.

I don't buy ground coffee anymore. Get some decent whole beans and a burr grinder and it's a night and day difference, especially when grinding them right before brewing the coffee. Yes, it's more work, but totally worth it IMO if you have the time.

Right now I'm using an Encore burr grinder and Chemex pour over, but they can be ground for french press too. My favorite beans have been Sightglass so far, but I'm still experimenting.

Peet's Major Dickason's, pour over, black is my daily driver.

Every time I visit Hawaii, I come back with some variety of 100% Kona coffee. Drinking 100% (not blend) Kona coffee black for the first time was when I realized you didn't need creme and sugar to make a good cup of joe.
