So a fresh wave of mass protests will be kicking off this weekend. Macron has pulled off the impossible. He basically brought the left and right together in their utter hate for him. It's very likely that he will be kicked from power soon. This weekend will be interesting.

I've been waiting to see how long it will take for someone to bring up the situation in France. By my recollection it's been at least 3 weeks yet not even the Canadians here made a peep.

Macron's approval is at 18%... riots over carbon taxes and unmanaged immigration... yet crickets.

I know what will stir the pot...

Did anyone notice the "Trump Curse" happening again? Macron snubs President Trump and the next thing you know Paris is in flames! I think now even Paris is pulling out of the Paris Accord!

They love to bring up how wonderful socialism is in Western Europe and how flooding the continent with 3rd world foreigners is "culturally enriching" Europe. When the shit finally backfires all you hear is crickets.

Macron is not a socialist, nor did France vote for socialism. France voted for the status quo.

Macron is a neo-liberal globalist.

No you're correct. And Europe is starting to topple all their globalist elite.

Very much so. I would say my own country needs to do so as well. But I think it will be a while before anything drastic happens over here.

oddly, every time socialism fails (which turns out to be pretty much every time) the Howard Zinn Fan Club, with Headquarters in the Faculty Lounge, invents a new descriptive title to explain that this wasn't really socialism after all....

I have to wonder if our idiot PM is watching what's going on and can draw any comparisons to the direction he's taking us in Canada.

I'll jump in. Indeed Marcons approval rating is in the toilet. Funny how he was the more conservative choice over Le Pen.

The yellow vest protest started out as a protest against the pending hike in gas prices but it has morphed into a protest to encompass everything from class inequality, gender, immigration, funding of public services, etc.

The vast majority of time when reading posts here I roll my eyes at the sheer stupidity being displayed.

This set of posts however might take the cake.

It's as if no one here has any knowledge of history before today or any knowledge of the world outside of their talk radio bubble. You may want to read about French history a little and see how totally in line with the French character this all is. These events are literally one of the defining traits of the French along with arrogance, bread and philosophers.

France has always had a push and pull balance between the people and the government many times resulting in violent clashes or even a very bloody revolution. It's quite literally a part of the French national DNA. These types of events happen every few years.

But as usual the idiots here transpose their own strange beliefs onto a given situation. It reminds me when similarly violent protests with burning cars were happening during the 2016 election rhetoric. There weren't too many Mexicans in Paris, so the morons here figured out a way to blame muslims for it. Of course you have to roll your eyes as these geniuses didn't realize that the French burn cars every 6 months. Fast forward to 2018 and muslims are pase so the new boogeyman for you idiots is to blame is socialism.

While you are on a roll, you might as well blame socialism for Germans liking beer or the British for bad teeth

Not to play devil's advocate here, but the French would riot over burnt toast. This isn't that surprising.

On a side note, however, Moron - er, I mean Macron - is an idiot that justly deserves whatever is coming his way.

The problem is that the French are rioting over the increased taxes but they will be the first to riot as soon as the government says that they will lower taxes but will have to reduce some of the social welfare programs too. They want it all for nothing and the unfortunate fact is that the French are much more in love with the government handouts than they are mad about the high taxes. This will go on for a few days and then blow over as soon as someone says they need to give up any of their free shit.
