Performance Friction Direct Drive Rotors
Has anyone tried these for the M coupe? http://store.bimmerworld.com/perform...tors-p608.aspx
Are they a direct swap for our rotors?

Update. Just called. They will not. So, the only options for our cars is to go BBK. No intermediate option before that. Sigh.

arhh that sucks imo.... we need more options for our brakes, i really dont want to have to spend 3500 GBP on stoptech or AP, i wish we had an option for GTR like AP j hooks, my thinking is a Real nice quality disc, uprated pads, braided lines, uprated brake fluid... this should do really imo!

The reason given was that the brakes are direct replacement for the e46 m4 (non competition package). 12.x inch rotors. Since we have the competition packaged rotors (345mm), they're not direct replacement for our car or the zcp e46.
+1 on what those rotors are Hack.

Looks great. I assume you've liked the way they performed over the years?
1. Do you track it? 2. Still on the original discs? 3. What pads do you use in conjunction with them? Sorry for so many questions...been looking for a good brake pad/disc combo for next year. Thanks.

Those rotors at racingbrakes are expensive! Almost 400 per rotor. Are there any cheaper alternatives? Definitely not looking forward to when I need my brakes changed.

2. Yes. I expect another 1-1.5 years on the original rotors before I need to change them. Although I thought that about a year ago. I wouldn't be surprised if I get more than 5 years of abuse, er, use out of it. 3. Cobalt XR3s for the last 3 year, Hawk DTC-60s this year, and RacingBrake ET500 pads for street and autocross use. You talking about the Performance Friction Direct Drive rotors? Yeah. They are BANK. But they are bank for a reason. True 2 piece floating rotors will do more for your braking system's cooling and longevity than any so-called "big brake kits" ever will. In fact, MY criteria for any brake upgrade involves 2 piece floating rotors, and the Direct Drives are about as good as they come. The RacingBrake rotors I have are just as good. But if you think about it. The replacement rotors for the MZ4 Coupe and Roadster are $290 ea for the front and $225 ea for the rear. For a little bit more, you get a replaceable rotor ring, which means the NEXT time you need to switch rotors they'll be significantly cheaper. And they perform better too. So for $20-40 more, and if I have to replace the rotor anyway? NO BRAINER. Quote:
And you're looking at suggested retail price I think. Any RacingBrake distributor will likely be able to get these rotors significantly cheaper than advertised.

The zcp brake conversion kit for m3s had a price drop to about $1000. It comes with carriers and I was thinkig about picking that kit up and sell the carriers afterward assuming the zcp m3 brakes are the same as ours

and Hack, good point about the next time around. I'm surprised these last that long. Jesus. So Racing Brake only offer fronts? No rears? |

They have rears. They're just not listed because they have the same problem as does Performance Friction. The way the fasteners are, if you use stock pad shape eventually the pads will grind into the rotor to hub fastener. Solution is to go with a shorter pad, but they decided not to offer that until they have a set of pads they can sell along with the rotors, and that hasn't happened yet.
But they have rear rotors. I test fitted a set and had to give it back due to the pad issues. If you call them you can actually order it if you acknowledge you understand that the OEM replacement pads are not compatible. I'm waiting for their new pad applications to be ready, since I've already got a set of Hawk DTC-60s in the OEM shape for the rear right now.

ah icicic. What pad would you suggest if I still want to be able to use them on the street? And if I only do weekend track days, but want performance when I do go to the track?
Or should I literally invest in track-only rotors and pads? They're pretty easy to swap anyhow, since no fluid flush is needed. |

ZCP rotors are cheaper but I don't know if they are direct replacements. Anyone have any experience with the fitment? They are different part numbers tho too

Not sure if E46 M3 can take ZCP (CSL) rotors as an upgrade from stock non-ZCP. I'll ask some friends. Have plenty E46 M3 buddies =P

Anyone know if these will fit our cars? Thinking of purchasing a set but worried they might not fit. |

Making pad recommendations without knowing your actual driving style and skills is like trying to diagnose a rash sight unseen. I personally go with the most aggressive pads that don't fade given my speed. Back long long time ago before I had a powerful car, I used to get by with mid-range track pads like Carbotech XP Plus, Cool Carbon R/T, Porterfield R4S or Hawk HP Plus equivalent. Most of these, especially the Cool Carbon R/T, was suitable for street AND track (they're some-what civilized for the street...Or at least livable). But as time goes on and my skill and speed increased, some of these pads are inadequate for the heavier braking (and higher powered cars) and I've since moved on to Cobalt XR-3 and Hawk DTC-60s as my exclusive pads. Don't forget, the OEM rotors on the MZ4 is already the best braking system BMW has made. It's even better than the brakes on the 135i. It's a true 2 piece floating rotor and it's far more effective at evacuating heat than most other BMW brake systems, and to be completely honest, if RB doesn't have their 2 piece offering, I'd probably be happy with the same OEM rotor replacement...

And I'm partial to Hawk pads...Not for performance reasons, I'm just brand loyal that way.
