USB MP3 install
I'm having a helluva time (not in the good way) of getting my Bimmernav USB/MP3/Aux In player installed. I've looked on all the threads I can see on this site, and I can't find my issue. I have a 2005 Z4 with CD changer but no Nav. It has DSP, so I ordered a Grom DSP adapter to basically give me the 6-pin plug.
So here's what I've done: 1. Plugged one end of the DSP coaxial that had been in the CD changer into DSP adapter. I have not touched the other end of the DSP coaxial. 2. Connected DSP adapter to switched power (purple/white wire) and ground (big brown wire) 3. Connected 6-pin plug on DSP adapter to USB/MP3 harness 4. Connected existing 3-pin plug to USB/MP3 harness 5. Connected USB/MP3 to switched power (purple/white) I made all the wire connections using Posi-taps, which are simple and reusable (and fit my novice-hood). I've checked inside to see if the upfront unit recognizes the USB/MP3, but it no luck. What am I missing here? Connecting the DSP adapter to the amp? Thanks for the help! Q |

Did you try to see if it would work without the DSP adapter? I've recently installed the GROM unit without using the DSP adapter and everything is working perfectly on my DSP stereo => http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=875077

I'm using a different aftermarket USB/MP3 player, not the GROM. I bought the GROM DSP adapter because it was available and provided a 6-pin plug that I have to have for the USB connection. Otherwise, I have no 6-pin at all.

Do you have a picture of your setup? I don't understand why you wouldn't have the 6-pin plug. All Z4s should have both the 3 & 6-pin plugs as shown in my pictures from the provided link.

Come to think of it, I did see a coax laying around near that location when I installed my GROM. But since I found both 3 & 6-pin connectors and it worked without needing to buy the additional DSP adapter, I didn't bother trying to figure how to deal with that coax.
Sorry that I couldn't be more of help |

And I swear that I've plugged every plug into every socket, but I guess not, since this thing still isn't working. Is there anyone in NOVA who could give me a hand?
Thanks. |
